Source??? Can you let us know the lotto numbers as well for Thursday night thanks??? No one knows what would have happened but putting some more pressure on when we had them 5 or 6 down in both innings couldn't have hurt.
putting more pressure on would have given England another easy 50 runs in each innings

Again where’s your proof?? We treated their top 3 like it was Hobbs, Sutcliffe and Hammond ffs. They are slogging plodders so we spread the field and made it easy for them. Giving east singles to new batsman especially after we had them 5 or 6 down.

Yeah but they definitely would have scored another 50 runs each innings lol.

where is your proof that your tactics would get a better result?

The poms batted like idiots. Australia got the same amount of runs batting normally. They probably could have gotten a few more in the first innings - but they are good enough to get this total against the english bowling attack.

If anything it is letting the tailenders get easy runs that is the issue - but it is not new for this team

We need to find a better way to combat Bazball or it’s going to be a long summer, someone should tell Greta bending over and spreading our arse cheeks is not a good plan.

The worrying thing is grade and park cricketers on this forum can see a better way than our fearless (because you need brains to feel fear) leaders?

Like it's cricket 101 you can actually defend in a way that still allows you to attack the batsmen. We're just spreading the field and bowling six different balls an over like it's an ODI on a road at Eden Park and you're happy with a score under 360

You can put more pressure on without being headless and just bending over, you know?

Day one, bowling fifth stump, we had a deep mid-wicket and a deep square for Patty at one point. Why? What's the strategy?

Fair enough have a rider on the off side the way they're batting. But with that line and length, let them try and get it out there. There no use having that defensive field to that line and it allows them to move around the crease and work the ball there with no risk.

We gave Root, the one guy in this team who won't get antsy when he doesn't get a boundary for a dozen balls, free reign to late cut. That's literally his get going shot and we said "here you go son, have a free run every ball." What's the plan there? At least have you third on the circle and make him take a risk or change his approach

Giving blokes who are still on zero easy singles to settle in is what is wrong with the tactics.

Joe Root had scored 5 ducks in his previous 17 innings against Australia leading into this Test.

And we let him waltz in and get off the mark with an easy single down to third man.

Whenever i batted in junior & few years in senior cricket the moment i got off the mark it relaxed and the stress went out of my batting and i played with a lot more freedom. I was a nervous wreck while still on zero petrified of a duck. I am sure these Professionals are the same.

Head and Carey are key I reckon. A counterattacking 60-70 could be match winning here. Khawaja and Green will most likely dig themselves in for the long haul. Can't trust any of the tail to score many.

Sadly, I have seen this story before and I think I know how it ends.

why would you think that professional cricketers are exactly the same as people who never made it to professional standard?

We love losing a heartbreaker in England.

How many close test matches have we actually won in the Ashes in the last 25 years.

All i remember is 2005 at Edgbaston lost by 2 runs, 2013 at Nottingham lost by 14 runs , 2019 at Leeds the Stokes miracle.

There all Human with more talent.

Your kidding yourself that the professionals aren't nervous the moment they walk out to the crease.

Look at Shaun Marsh he basically scored a duck every 6.8 test innings and was a nervous wreck early in his innings.

Once he got through 20 balls he was completely different player.

Most Test Batsman would be confident in there ability then us Park Cricketers absolutely but Cricket's a bigger mental game then technical.

As a batsman you basically have failed everytime you don't score 100.

Not Baz et al's style to second guess decisions, but surely Bairstow either plays as a bat ahead of one of the top three, or doesn't play - his keeping is one key factor in this test

Eh. People are people. Some sixth grade park cricketers walk out at 5/10 as nervous as if they've just taken a fist full of downers and some Test bats have gone in the record as saying they were shitting themselves waiting to bat every time.

There's always pressure to get off the mark though

I am surprised Buttler hasn't been brought back before Bairstow, a better keeper and a better attacking bat.

Bazball isn't going to change the fact that a decent keeper is much more important than a long batting line up
