Huh? Sounds like Starc was spraying them everywhere actually:

Starc began with a wide and continued to struggle with line, so wayward that on five separate occasions wicketkeeper Peter Nevill could not prevent four byes.

There are obviously still major question marks over his red ball ability. A fit Harris walks into the team over Starc anyday.

This is why those 4-1,5-0 predictions are geniused, its gonna be like 2-2 or even an Aussie loss this series, both teams are overrated muppets.

Hard to read this pitch, was a road yesterday.

Clarkie needed those runs but we really are up and down atm.

Starc with 6 wickets and MMarsh with 2 did all the damage but geez there is a lot of daylight between MMarsh and Watson in this game, Sunshine 6 runs and MMarsh with 37.

Cant help but think they will still pick Watson and justifying it saying he is an experienced Ashes player.

I believe this is Starc first ever FC match in England so understandable him struggling early on, came back nicely today.

Not ideal having that big collapse, I'm hoping it was just case of big lead already and most of the guys already having some runs from the first innings.

saw Jim Maxwell's round up, pitch was pretty two faced and hard to bat on which makes Clarkies effort so much better, no excuses for Watson though, LBW off a full toss

I said somewhere else, that the jury is still out on Starc in test cricket after the WI tour. Yes he took wickets against a WI side that was amongst one of their worst ever. He bowled balls that were unplayable to batsmen at that level, but he also bowled plenty of tripe that would have been put away by better batsmen. Still looked like a bowler that would average in the low 30s in the long term.

He's certainly ready to take the next step though.

Reports are suggesting that Ryan Harris is about to be ruled out for the entire series. Would be a huge blow if true and could well be it for his career. What a shame, he is a champion.

Jim Maxwell just said Harris has announced his retirement.

Pat Cummins will be joining the squad

Cummins in the squad makes no sense.

Two first matches in the last four years, and none in the last year.

Nice to see Haze get some wickets, he and Starc did the damage.

Not much between Watson and MMarsh in the bowling, if anything Watson seems to be considerably more economical atm which could feature in the selection criteria, MMarsh is a much better strike bowler imo.

Lyon 1 for 200 against a county team.

You believe incorrectly. He was on the last Ashes tour where he played tests, and has played a full county season for Yorkshire.

He has a ton of experience with the Duke ball in England.

Watson has the nod apparently.

All our bowlers and Watson were being rested from bowling fast in the nets last night while MMArsh was charging in which he wouldn't be allowed to do if he were in the 11.

Nothing official as yet but the above info was reported on the ABC news this morning.

Running short on excuses so they pulled out the "filling Harris role" line. I wonder what the excuse would have been if Harris was still playing.
