Why?

The longer the batting team keep putting it off, the more they risk running out of batsmen by the time it is taken.

Exactly, do you take it in the 30th over when 4 and 5 are going well or do you leave it till the 43rd over and risk 8 and 9 having to take advantage of it.

That six from Morkel back over the bowlers head was the crispest shot I've seen. Straight as a dye, not a slog just a wickedly well executed stroke. Blokes like Jacob Oram could do well to take a good look at him and see how he's able to pound it straight away rather than block for 20 balls than have a rip at it.

What is wrong with the new powerplay format? makes ODIs more interesting imo

because it gives batting yet ANOTHER advantage over the bowling

bowlers are restricted in their use of the bouncer and the leniency of wides yet the batting team can say "hey for the next 5 overs you can only have three men outside the circle" and go haywire and add another 30 odd unwarranted runs

that's why it's bullsh*t

The powerplay is nothing new. The only difference is BOTH the fielding and batting team can choose when to have 5 overs of it. Stop whining for the sake of whining.

Or, you could just bowl to your field and vary your pace like the South Africans just did. The inner circle was supposed to destroy bowling, particularly spin bowling, but players have just adapted.

I actually quite like the concept

Anyways Australia have no idea how to bat in the powerplay

After looking like they would score almost 300, Australia have decided to suck at batting - scoring slow whilst getting out. I don't mind them getting out but at least get out swinging and not by giving the infield fieldsmen catching practice.
