am i the only australian who is disgusted in james pattinson's behaviour over this test match? while he did bowl well, a couple of his actions were quite low and appalling from someone who is looked up to as an idol by many australian children e.g. bowling repeated bouncers at the tail when the result was beyond doubt (which he ended up getting warned about) along with unneccesarily starting verbal and near physical exchanges with several indian players. given the recent 'image' controversy cricket australia has been through, they could do worse than rein him in a notch or two.

How much does Chappell love Rohit Sharma! Blows him hard at every chance he can.

Chappell is a few sandwiches short of a picnic though, but Healy makes him seem smart and insightful...

Good win Aust, and a VERY watchable test... Indians pretty disappointing with the bat, Aust too... Both teams pretty ordinary tbh, we await the emergence of the next great side, or perhaps just a few years of relatively unpredictable results, with home teams doing pretty well...

Agree, but he does need to temper it a bit. Going the tough guy against bunnies won't make you Malcolm Marshall. He went over board with the short stuff at the tail when it is his beautiful full work that is going to get him wickets against top middle and lower order. Bouncers are for variation, when you turn it into your stock offering, especially against tail enders and start the funny faces it's evidence that you've lost the plot.

Certainly better than watching Johnson attempt intimidation, but let the ball do most of the talking son.

What was wrong with it, if you can't get them out, hurt them.I give you Jeff Thomson's analogy, he would rather kill the batsman than get them out...that was why he was one of the most feared bowlers of all time! Bowlers should bowl bouncers but withing reason, use the maximum (2), but don't go beyond that!

IIRC, last time we played aggro there was an outcry and we were basically forced to play nice guys, we proceeded to lose the next match convincingly. I believe it was against India during their last tour here too. We are natural competitors, it's our nature to fire up and anyone who doesn't like it either doesn't understand Australia or has lost the plot.

The problem was he'd stopped trying to get them out. A couple more full balls and he'd have got his 5-fer. And he did go beyond his maximum which was why he got no-balled.

Thompson was most feared when he had Lillee up the other end. Lillee was always feared - because he was always trying to get them out. He bowled bouncers and gave the death stare, but he was always looking to get you out with a leg cutter or a bit of outswing or to knock over your pegs. That's why Lillee is rated as one of the very greatest and Thommo is not.

Pattinson has shown a lot of the things that made Lillee a great. Good full length, good line just outside off, bit of movement in the air and off the pitch, great pace. Add in a bit of aggro and showmanship and you've got a special. But if he overdoes it and loses the line and length then he just becomes Peter Siddle (before McDermott put some smarts in him). The old Siddle would do the same shit, huff and puff and dig it in short. And come away with 0 or 1 wicket for the innings. Hopefully he's put those days behind him and hopefully Pattinson never has those days.
