Never lost a D/N test in Adelaide.

I am pretty sure the Windies loss at the Gabba was D/N last year was our only pink ball defeat.
We hadn’t lost one at Optus stadium either.

How does anyone force their way into the side with no first class cricket till Feb??

The guy whose ramp shot is the best??

Or who flips the bat best??

Marnus’s head is so far up his own arse he is gobbling his tonsils, he is a decent player who hit a purple patch off the most luck I have ever seen for a batsman. He struts around like he’s prime Ricky Ponting, t
So much this...

Insipid from the batsmen.

The bowlers could have been better in the 3rd innings but they did their job in the 1st and had no right to be under that type of pressure.

What about Marnus the clown, looking up at the radar gun after he bowls.

Josh Inglis seems like the next batsman in the squad yet he isn't playing the Sheffield shield this week with his feet up carrying the drinks.

After playing white ball cricket for 3 weeks.

So do we bring him in for Adelaide with no red ball preparation.

Just another mind boggling decision why wasn't he sent to Adelaide to play in the D/N Shield as the reserve backup bat to prepare possibly for the next test.

And why isn't there 3 more shield games next weekend for some of these blokes to go back and play.

The next shield round starts on Day 1 of the Adelaide test match.

Sometimes i wonder if the clowns at CA could even organise a meat raffle at the local pub.

Gone are the days where you'd get updates on Shield Scores during the test and think gee Bevan, Blewett, Lehmann might be a chance if a batsman got injured or if a bowler got injured, you see the likes of Bichel, Fleming, Kasper getting 5 for.

They showed McSweeny's overall record and if he averaged 37 in the 90s early 2000s, he'd barely make the 2nd's team. Nothing against the guy, I hope he does well but its concerning for the batting ranks.

For a test series between the two best sides, the batting lineups are pretty ordinary/out of form... Jaiswal would be in a World XI, Khawaja might be considered, no other batters really close... Pant probably as keeper because of his bat...

Whereas both sets of bowlers are world class - the Aussie 2nd innings effort notwithstanding

McSweeney wouldn’t make most shield sides of the 90’s.

Jason Arnburger would have played 50 tests if he played now ffs!!

I think the Shield is a joke so it's impossible to say tbh.

Our generational batsmen were infinitely improved, if not partly created, by playing Shield against guys who would make most test sides around the world these days. And tbh, at the time too.

For a guy like McSweeney or Webster or even young Konstas the ceiling is so low in Shield. Talented bats can only go so far and if further improvement isn't required by the competition then it can't happen

The 90s Australian talent and depth was absurd

Absolutely. And quality creates quality.

This is the 1998 Shield winning WA side (random year picked)

Mike Hussey
Ryan Campbell
Justin Langer
Damien Martyn
Tom Moody
Simon Katich
Adam Gilchrist
Brendon Julian
Jo Angel
Mark Atkinson
Brad Oldroyd

Nine international (granted, some future at that stage) cricketers!!! That's not even a NSW side.

David Hussey scored 14,280 FC runs at 52.80 with 45 First Class 100s.

And never played a test match.

Its almost insulting with some of the dregs that have got baggy green's in the past 5-10 years compared to someone like Dave Hussey who never got a chance.

They should have picked Dussey, instead they pick Bobby Quiney!
