Watch CA schedule Afghanistan as the first Test of the summer at the GABBA now to appease BCCI.

I wouldn't have an issue with that, as long as the trade-off is making India play the day/night test (or maybe 2, as was proposed by CA recently. The two would be at Adelaide and Perth).

CA can't cave in on this issue like they did last year.

Real enjoyable days test cricket, Kiwis fought really hard a deck that didn't give them much. 400 minimum from here on in.

It was stinking hot at the Gabba as well. If it was day nighter they crack 20k at least.
That’s my fault. I refuse to give the 20k of them who work for me leave while the test is on and then use the sick leave they against them during performance review time by threatening to send them back to Pune.

seriously though. D/N test at the Gabba against India is a sellout.

Unfortunately we all know they'll cave.

2016 day nighter Vs Pakistan at the Gabba got 26k on day 1 and 20k+ for day 2 and 3 from memory. That was the first day nighter here though so probably got substantially better crowds for that reason.

Craddock said on cricket 360 he is hearing the Gabba is favourite to get the 1st test against India at the moment, although that just might be the Qld bias in him.

Bloody good toss to win with that day 1 deck and the weather, and we did well to restrict their scoring imo... another wicket or two and we're well on top... Aust marginally up now, and terrific innings from Labuschange... also Wagner showed he's quality, his record isn't an accident... he just looks like a club bowler, or as wonderfully pointed out a Panzer driver!

We missed Boult hugely, and now likely Ferguson can't bowl... up against it, and can't help but feel that Starc and later Lyon will be huge challenges (not to say Cummin and Hazelwood won't)...

But good competitive Day 1, in which we saw the series is likely to be competitive... both teams have strengths, both have weaknesses - Australia heavy favourites, but hopefully we will stay in the fight

Yes. Bugger of a toss to lose. We could be down a bowler now too. A couple more wickets and I’d be very happy. As it is, a good effort but Australia on top.

I like the look of Ferguson, nice action, reminds me a bit of Jimmy Anderson, patience and nurturing needed there.

Marvelous Marnus just seems to keep getting better and smudge just looked out of sorts, very scratchy

so much wrong with Burn's shot and that ball should have been 4 runs, looks to me like he is trying to over correct is technical faults, his head was outside off stump and the ball was on middle and half a rat power, poor guy really looks to be struggling

and Wade, lol, cant see the ball

If Ferguson is out, New Zealand is on the defense. Southee, Wagner and de Grandhomme bowled well enough, but Santner and maybe Williamson are going to have to bowl some overs and they are not at all threatening.

Losing a bowler, even if he is inexperienced, puts the kiwis in a tough spot.

Day 2 from an Australian perspective is all about Travis Head. He's got a gold plated opportunity to score big runs and put Australia in a unlosable position.

If he fails he should get Bancrofted.
