Test cricket is back in just over a weeks time , woo hoo. SL have a warm up game v Notts beforehand

Be interesting to see the makeup Englands side, particularly the top 6. Also two Lords tests this summer for them, one here and one vs India

Sam Robson is a big chance to open with Cook.
Chris Jordan is a chance for 3rd seamer.
Monty Panesar is long odds to be picked.

Probably going to pick Moeen Ali to bat at 6 and bowl tweakers.

Robson is the favourite to open, Carberry is still in the frame. Nick Compton and Daryl Mitchell are smokies.

Probably going with 4 quicks, money is on Jordan and Onions to be the new faces.

.

Yeah I think Moeen Ali will be the spinner.
Not sure about the keeper.
Prior is back in favour but struggling for fitness
Buttler is in good touch in the short forms of the game but Cook doesn't think he is ready.
You can rule Bairstow out.
Kieswetter and James Foster would be the other options.

James Foster is getting some serious love from the BBC.

Would not be surprised if he got recalled (after what must be at least 10 years absence) as they don't think Buttler is ready for the 5 day stuff. The other smoky is Chris Read.

I think they'll line up like this:

1-Cook*
2-Compton/Carberry/Mitchell/Robson (this is a real crap shoot)
3-Bell
4-Root
5-Morgan
6-Moeen
7-Foster+
8-Broad
9-Jordan
10-Anderson
11-Onions

Bring back Kerrigan for the laughs lol

no no save him for the 2015 ashes :D

Onions has to be there, was amazingly omitted last ashes campaign when he was the form pacemen over there, but poms wanted to go for tall, toned and smooth fast bowlers

Only kept wickets in this recent country game since the ashes and made a meal of some deliveries apparently, but is right to go for England, friggin hilarious

Matt Prior is ready and hungry to play for England, Sussex coach Mark Robinson insisted on Wednesday as the match against Nottinghamshire petered out to a predictable draw.

Four days of play at Hove had been full of runs on a fabulously flat pitch with three innings of 150 or more but Prior dropped down the divisions with the bat, mustering 30 in the first innings and a watchful and unbeaten 19 in the second.

Before this game, he had not kept wicket in a first-class match since the third Ashes Test in Perth in December and his glove work, especially on the first day, did little to bolster confidence with a fumbled chance to dismiss Phil Jaques and several conspicuous rummages.

Mick Newell, the Nottinghamshire coach who missed the action on Wednesday to attend the selectors’ meeting in Edgbaston, would have had a bird’s eye view from the players’ balcony, which might now be a concern for Prior.

Robinson was adamant Prior was ready but conceded that he was short on time in the middle. “Ideally he would have had more time in the ring but he is ready mentally,” said Robinson.

Can we move the ashes forward? That is a woeful side, Plunkett really? When was the last time he played a test 06-07 ashes. If Cook and Bell don't fire then they will struggle.

Aussie U19s player set to make debut

England has named a 12-man squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka on 12 June, with Australian-born Sam Robson set to make his debut at Lord's.

Matt Prior returns to the England set up, and will be joined by uncapped players Chris Jordan and Moeen Ali.

Ben Stokes is a shock omission, replaced by Warwickshire allrounder Chris Woakes.

Yorkshire's Liam Plunkett will do battle with Jordan for the third seam-bowling spot.

Full squad: Alastair Cook (c), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Chris Jordan, Liam Plunkett, Matt Prior, Sam Robson, Joe Root, Chris Woakes

Mistake to pick Prior. Woakes will be 12th.

England to prepare green tops and win in a canter.
