Lunch on Day 4. WIndies 212/4 lead by 57. Samuels 79, Chanderpaul 73.

New ball will be available an over after lunch

Pretty amazing efforts from WIndies right now. Samuels was undone by the new ball and the run rate is uninspiring, but the resolve of the batters out there is extraordinary. They need to bat at least til stumps to have a chance of winning or as is probably more likely, drawing. Ramdin and Chanders are really frustrating England right now and it is outstanding. WIndies lead by a hundred, 5 wickets in hand with 20 odd minutes till tea.

good captaincy put Swann in for an over or two before tea and gets Shiv out LBW first ball. Chanderpaul gone for 91, WIndies 261/6. Hard to see anything other than an English victory from here. Current lead is 106

C'mon you Windies..

How bad would it hurt the poms in the Test rankings if they happened to lose this series??..

Our series against the Windies has steeled them for this..

Cook seems to be filled with steely eyed reserve tonight, he will need to hold onto his wicket if England are to stay in this. WIndies are slightly ahead right now

Will not happen.

Poms will tough it out.

Probably not..But if they somehow pulled it off,how would badly would they pay in the rankings??..

The Windies are ranked 7th,so i imagine the poms would pay a heavy price..

Thought Halla would be all over the question actually..She loves her stats..

I had refused to consider this possibility because I have wanted England to go into the Proteas tour as number 1, and SAfrica to take that away from them in that test series. But, if you insist on an answer, rankings don't change til the end of the series and a 2-1 result in their favour will actually keep their ratings points unchanged, if they lose 3-0, they lose 6 rating points and move down to number 5. I think the fact that they play so many test really helps them in terms of rating points. A 1 all series result, I think will only cost them 2 rating points and move them to second. I think if England lose 1-0, they will be equal on points with Australia, but Australia will be ahead on fractions of a point

To answer the question, it is unlikely that they will move below 2nd after this series

Cheers..

I thought it'd cost them big time..Be nice to see it happen..

I thought it would have too, but their rating is still remarkably high, so not getting points from a game or two doesn't affect them that badly. On the flip side, getting points from these matches doesn't help them much. Points wise, it would affect WIndies much more if they won a single game, then it would England if they lost the series
