Australia’s cricket team seems to have delivered on coach Justin Langer’s promise to persist with sledging despite the cultural issues exposed by the ball-tampering scandal.

Pakistan’s Haris Sohail scored a maiden Test century in the first innings of the First Test in Dubai and indicated he’d received his share of chirp from the Aussies.

Sohail didn’t seem particularly troubled by the treatment, smiling as he said: “I’m an innocent guy. When they tried to sledge me I didn’t even look at them. On a couple of occasions when they sledged I turned a deaf ear to it.”

Langer had always insisted sledging was a good thing if done properly, saying he likes to sledge his own daughter.

“If I play Uno with my daughter there’s lots of banter, we sort of sledge each other but we don’t abuse each other,” Langer said. “And when I play golf with my mum and dad we sort of sledge each other. But there’s a difference between banter and abuse, and abuse is not good. There’s no room for abuse anywhere.”

Australia’s captain Tim Paine also felt there were occasions when sledging was warranted.

“We’re certainly about banter and making the opposition uncomfortable, making them feel our presence, but the abuse is no longer part of the way we go about it,” said Paine.

Sohail survived a DRS decision on 51 when he was reprieved despite the ball tracker showing a Nathan Lyon delivery was going on to hit the stumps. Under the little-known DRS law he survived because he was more than 3 metres away from his stumps.

I'm out of town for work and my hotel doesnt have Fox..

What's the pitch looking like? Doing anything?

What's the crowd like? Doing anything?
There are signs of crumbling but generally still playing well. Five people and their dogs. Schoolkids were making up most of the crowd earlier. Coupla Aussies waving flags.. one bloke is also waving a bat. I have seen him in just about every overseas tour Oz has made over the past two decades.
