I think the argument is that you are conflating taking a double header to the States (which is an exciting thing by the way) with them actually succeeding in securing talent from the States. They are two entirely different things

I’m much in favour of these two games in America - I’d actually aim for further and take a whole round overseas - but I don’t think you are likely to get a whole bunch of NFL dropouts etc to convert to the NRL.

TBF, the NRL has neither the resources nor connections to crack the US market in any significant way, and no business plan or marketing strategy is going to change that. Even just building a sustainable niche audience (by US standards) would be an expensive long term project that'd undoubtedly face multiple, very expensive, set backs.

RL has none of the resources, exposure, cultural relevance, significant immigrant populations with a prior interest in the sport, third party investors, etc, etc, that soccer had when it started really pushing growth in the US, and it's cost soccer 10s of billions of dollars over the course of roughly 50 years to get to where they are now in the US, just to give you an idea.

If the goal is to grow the sport internationally (which it obviously isn't in this case BTW) then there're way more achievable options than the US. You have to learn to walk before you can run. If the NRL/RL is serious about attempting to gain a toehold in NA then Canada would be the best bet at the moment.
