When you think about great players like Martin offiah, Jonathan Davies etc who switched straight into first grade from union Im staggered we don’t raid union for snr talent constantly if we have a player development depth problem.
Too costly for the risk they’ll fail. Cheaper to sign up all their good juniors and develop them from there like we’re doing in Sydney.

I think a lot of you have missed the point, or one of the points to getting US talent. It's also to get US fans on board.
Honestly it’s distracting from the 20 team thing and making the whole thing sound like bs

it’ll be hard enough just to get 20 teams approved

If the arlc funded vic and wa $2mill more a year, nzrl $10million and pngrl $5million we’d have more new talent coming through then we knew what to do with. Throw in some elite systems and academies in regional nsw and qlnd and 22 clubs wouldn’t be a problem.
You dismissed this whole topic until it happened... why are you still here?

Pipe dream. Rugby League fans don’t start following others sports because random failed NRL reserve graders might end up playing them.
The only exception is Volkanovski in the UFC and that’s because it’s a juggernaut.

That's rubbish. All of Australia tuned in to watch Hayne debut for San fran in the NFL. I DID!

Reality results from investigation and effort not from abject negativity.
And even a cursory investigation shows that every attempt made by other sports to do what PVL is suggesting has been prohibitively expensive and failed to produce more than a handful of players. That's the case in the AFL, multiple different RU's, Cricket internationally, even the Toronto Wolfpack and other RL organisations in the past, and a whole bunch of other examples.

BTW, 'negativity', 'pessimism', 'positivity', and 'optimism' become totally meaningless terms when you use them exclusively as synonyms for your personal agreement and disagreement.

It's beyond a stretch to suggest that a significant amount of people became fans of the UFC and/or Volkanovski because he's an ex Warilla Gorillas players.

I know you love being a contrarian but I was only really placating him with the Volkanovski comment. Don’t take it too seriously.

Trouble is that the nuance is missing in the debate. The pro side of the debate aren't saying " yeah f**king no brainer, all the talent in world! "
What we are suggesting is that it worth exploring and at least putting on the table! If we can come to terms with a decent plan to implement it and it stacks up as worth a punt financially..let's give it a go!
As PVD is basically saying 🤷‍♂️
The nay side are saying.. if was spoken about once and therefore we shall never speak of it again!
The same people that like to complain about rl lack of ambition...
You can't make this shit up.

Calling it as it is isn't being a contrarian, and that was absolute nonsense.

Also you aren't placating him by taking that tact, all you are doing is leaving it open for him to argue that you've agreed that it's possible, or that you're a hypocrite.

If it had one iota of credibility as an idea I’m sure it wouldn’t be getting ripped apart like it is lol. Of all the areas nrl could invest to increase player depth even you would have to admit college football would have to be the lowest chance of roi.
Maybe pistol Pete should have thought a bit longer Before speaking on this one?

The difference is that he was one of the stars of the NRL, not a no name reserve grader.
A reserve grade player in the NFL are more known than an NRL star in Australia buddy. Australia 26m usa 320m the NFL rejects have more people aware of them then our star here do.

You mean pretty much exactly what I said and was attacked for...
Now none of this is to say that the NRL shouldn't explore holding combines in the US, or looking to develop talent there in some other manner. Why not give it a crack if they've got the money and time to do it, just keep your expectations of what's achievable reasonable.
By the way, most of the 'pro' side are saying 'no brainer, all the talent in world', and are ignorant enough to believe it.
