What is your personal favourite(s) for this year?

Triple J have got their annual poll up and running...

Here is what I selected:

End Of Fashion - End Of Fashion
Finn Brothers - Everyone Is Here
Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better
Kaiser Chiefs - Employment
Pendulum - Hold Your Colour
Shihad - Love Is The New Hate
System Of A Down - Mezmerize

I'd go as far to say Hypnotize is better than Mesmerize, if you had to consider them seperately. Certainly my pick anyway.

I had trouble selecting 10 albums from that list - 2005 wasn't the best year for good music...
Wake up to yourself - it's been a great year for music.

My Top 10:

Illinois - Sufjan Stevens
Leader of the Free World - Elbow
Black Sheep Boy - Okkervil River
Woman King EP - Iron & Wine
Veneer - Jose Gonzales
Sleeps Like A Curse - The Panics
Gimme Fiction - Spoon
Dios Malos - Dios Malos
Some Cities - Doves
In Case We Die - Architecture in Helsinki

Iron & Wine wasn't nominated, so I inserted Arcade Fire - Funeral instead (even though it is considered a 2004 release...)

I actually think it's on par with 2003 - the releases by the big acts have disappointed (Foo Fighters, Coldplay) but some artists have really kicked my arse this year (Sufjan, Okkervil River, Elbow).

If you look at what JJJ listeners voted in for their top ten of 2003:

10. The Living End "Modern Artillery"
9. Muse "Absolution"
8. John Butler Trio "Living 2001-2002"
7. Ben Harper "Diamonds On The Inside"
6. Something For Kate "The Official Fiction"
5. Jack Johnson "On & On"
4. Jet "Get Born"
3. Radiohead "Hail To The Thief"
2. White Stripes "Elephant"
1. Powderfinger "Vulture Street"

I'll take 2005 (with a Radiohead and The Shins release please) any day - what a big fat pile of bland there is there.

Dodz Illa - I clearly stand corrected ;-)

Half - I understand what you are saying...and there were heaps of great albums out then (Doves, Elbow, Radiohead, The Shins)...but 2005 has been far from ordinary. It is much much better than 2004 agreed - 2004 was a sh*t year for music. 2003 was great, but 2005 has been pretty great too.
