I've waited until recruitment was finished to give my 2005 side. Here goes:

1. Clinton Schifcofske
2. Phil Graham
3. Adam Mogg
4. Craig Frawley
5. Matthew Gafa
6. Mark Mclinden
7. Jason Smith
13. Jason Croker
12. Ian Hindmarsh
11. Michael Hodgson
10. Michael Weyman
9. Simon Woolford
8. Ryan O'Hara

14. Troy Thompson
15. Matt Adamson
16. Josh Miller
17. Todd Carney

I think that's a pretty strong side, definately top 8 contenders. the only question is do you go with size on the bench or skill?
I also think Carney will get a go some weeks when Smith is "rested"- look out for that one.

Have we finished though? Every time I think we've finished, another rumouor comes along, and then we sign someone else.

My side for 05'

Schif
Smith
Graham
Mogg
Gafa
Macca
Carney
O'hara
Wooford
Weyman
Hindmarsh
Croker

I think for Carney to develop he needs to play alonside the likes of Smith and Macca as opposed to coming off the bench.

I'm gonna throw a spanner in the works here.....

1. Shiffer - Inspirational from the back...

2. Graham - Dynamic, Fast, Line Breaker... Scores Tries... Just what we need

3. Ale - Gun! Seen Him Play... Very, Very Good Prospect

4. Mogg - 2004 Raider of the Year

5. Frawley - Sorry Mate... You're a winger but a good one

6. J Smith - Might be old... But he is an awesome player with great ball skills. Great offloader...leader

7. T Carney - It's Time...This kid is going to be something special.

8. O'Hara - Will Struggle to keep his spot with his present form

9. L Jay - Gun Hooker... Australian Schoolboy...

10. M Weyman - Colossus

11. M Hodgson - Workhorse - Good hit ups.. tackle machine

12. M Adamson - If he's 80% the player he was... he will go great guns

13. J Croker (C) - Inspirational... still busts the line.. I was a doubter this year but he still has what it takes... give him the captaincy! Loyal, good role model and has the goods.

14. M Mclinden - What? On the bench? Sorry guys.. IMO he is one of the best single players in the side. Give him plenty of time on the ground but more in a Shaun Berrigan Role... fill the gaps...His versatiliy is his greatest asset.. Let's Use it!!!

15. T Thompson - His Current Form would deserve a spot

16. I Hindmarsh - Good impact from the bench

17. A Tongue - Tackle machine! Really fires the rest of the team up...

I Know, I know...

You guys are thinking... Is he crazy!?!? No Woolford? McLinden on the bench?

OK... my thoughts are this...

Check Woolfords stats... He is far from even the top 5 hookers going round. Sure.. he wears his heart on his sleeve but IMO he doesn't do enough tackles for a hooker and although his service is very good.. He doesn't get to dummy half all the time which a good hooker will do. OK.. I could accept him at No.9 next year but don't let Luke Jay waiting! He'll leave like the rest of our great juniors. I truly belive he is up to it!

I know I will cop a bagging... but Macca is not a halfback.... the only thing that would suggest him being a halfback is his size! Todd Carney is definately the man for the job. Macca should play plenty of time on the field but more of a roving roll... not an organiser. He is an awesome player though! But the modern game is not about 13 players, It's about 17. Perhaps J Smith should get through all the hard yards... drop back to the second row/lock when the game goes on and Macca slot into 5/8?

I believe these kind of measures (as tough as they are) are really the way of the future. It is a perfect blend of youth and experience. And I truly believe there is enough talent on the field to make any team tremble.

J Ale is still to be tested in 1st grade.. so if he is not up to it...why not try macca in the centres... Worked for S Berrigan!

- Brimmer Brimmer Brimmer...don't you remember when Mal experimented with McLinden as an outside back? It didn't work. I think McLinden is in the best form of his career, he has come leaps and bounds as an organiser, and the reason for this is that he has been given stability regarding his position. I don't want to see him play 5/8 ever again. And I was impressed with Carney against the Tigers when he was playing like a 5/8.
- I agree that Woolford is not the best hooker going around, but we just seem to play heaps better when he's on song. When he plays well, the Raiders play well.
- Walt Flanigan, how do you leave Phil out of the team??? I hope that was just a mistake. There is absolutely no way that Robbo is better than Phil, he's an absolute gun.
- Raider Azz: what's the point of having two backs on the bench? I barely see the point in having one.
- This team is for Round 1 2005, barring injuries:

1.Schifcofske
2.Graham
3.Mogg
4.Frawley
5.N Smith
6.J Smith
7.McLinden
8.O'Hara
9.Woolford(c)
10.Weyman
11.Hodgson
12.Hindmarsh
13.Croker

14.Adamson
15.Martin
16.Cross
17.Gafa

Notes:
- Gafa's a bit too slow to be a full-time winger I think, hence the bench spot at the expense of N Smith, who's been very impressive so far (but has yet to prove himself under the high ball)
- Thommo was close, but I think, like Davico, he's slow around the rucks in defence.

Gafa is not neccesarily a back. We were talking about this in another topic. Gafa is a great utility player, he could play in the second row, lock, five eigth or on the wing. His form lately forces me to keep him in the squad. Carney is in there to be eased in by J Smith.

I think we are short a front rower for next year. Apart from that I think thats a crack team if given the chance by the coach. I dont know how good this Jermaine Ale is but if he is as good as everyone thinks I hope he is pushing for a first grade spot by mid year.

Having said this their is plent of excess baggage in our squad. T.Smith and Boogas, sorry but the door is that way
