My backline next season is a fairly straight forward one

STARTER - OTHER OPTIONS

1. Schifcofske - Graham and Chalk
2. Chalk - Smith, Robertson and Gafa
3. Mogg - Gafa, Graham and Ale
4. Frawley - Gafa, Graham and Ale
5. Graham - Smith, Robertson and Gafa

N Smith  utility/back row

jed: how can mogg be put higher than frawley and graham?! if Phil has one more year in reggies i'm seriously gonna lose it.

here's my thingie based on 69's:

1.Schifcofske - only injury to keep him from playing here all year. if injury does strike, Chalky or Gafa are the replacement options.
2.Chalk - on current form there's no question
3.Gafa - is a top defender, does all the little things right and he can score a try too. Mogg's another option.
4.Graham - is a matchwinner, Mogg isn't, therefore Graham gets priority at this position. Phil needs opportunites to get outside his man, not just run onto an offload or take advantage of an overlap. way too skilful to be a winger.
5.Frawley - straight into the starting team, no doubt, its only the position he plays which is slightly dubious. jed is seriously mistaken thinking that he's not a cert selection

That's the great thing about these forums, kris_man, everyone's entitled to their own opinions.

I am one of Phil's greatest fans, and the guy's deadset on fire whenever he's been given time in the top grade. But he needs to get consistant time playing 1sts, not just making cameo appearances. And Frawley too, he's one of the best buys we've made this season. But buying great players doesn't mean they're going to gel with the rest of the side. I certainly hope he does, but there's no guarantees.

If Kenny is wearing the #3 jersey, will Chalky have a walking frame with him out on the wing when Nagas is starting to struggle a bit?? :p

1. Schifcofske
2. Graham/Chalk
3. Gafa/Graham
4. Frawley
5. Robertson/Frawley/Mogg/Fransicus/Ale
6. McLinden
7. Carney/J Smith
8. O'Hara (another season like the latter end of 2004 he'll be benched)
9. Woolford
10. Weyman
11. Miller/Adamson
12. Croker/Adamson
13. J Smith/Croker/Campese

14. Campese/Carney
15. Rothery/Hodgeson
16. Cross
17. Kahler/Miller/Hindmarsh

I'd select a team like that or at least with those players. Since we seem to be in a rebuilding phase players like O'Hara and Hindmarsh they need to step up or we should give the youngsters their chance. Players like T Smith, Bulgarelli if I see them in firsts I'll piss blood, with guys like Ale,Miller,Mundine,Fransicus,Kahler around they shouldn't make 1st all year.

I think all of us are leaving D Howell out of the equation. I reckon he's gonna be a really good player - fast, great under the high ball and can score a try. we have the potential to have an electric backline next year, but we also have the potential to have a defensive-specialist backline. i wonder which one elliott will go for...

what's with all the anti-moggism? Other than schif he's the Raiders most experienced outside back. He's very solid and has showed that he's a more than capable 1st grader in his time with Canberra. Parra would love to have him back. Some of you guys need to give yourselves and uppercut and then 1 more to keep ya honest!
here's my lineup:-

1. schif
2. graham
3. mogg
4. frawley
5. D.Howell
6. Smith
7. Carney
8. O'hara
9. Woolford
10. Weyman
11. Adamson
12. Hindmarsh
13. Croker

Interchange:-
14. Hodgson
15. Thompson
16. Miller
17. Mclinden
18. Martin
19. Cross
20. Rothery
21. Campese
22. Michael Robertson
23. Tongue
24. Michael Howell
25 Nathan Smith

(william zillman, jermaine ale & luke jay might feature at some stage next year as well.)
There's my top25 (note the interchange and reserves are in no particular order, just guys i could think of off the top of my head. I think David Howell is going to be a good player. I remember seeing him play the Raiders in 03 and he was impressive. I've also omitted Tryan Smith & Jason Bulgarelli as i believe they shouldn't be at the club in 2005 if the Raiders management had any sense at all. The club has to filter out the guys who have proven that their not upto the standard.

You guys may see some surprises but it is time to blood the two next best players the raiders have.

1. Shif
2. Mogg
3. Graham
4. Frawley
5. Robertson
6. Campese
7. Carney
8. Ohara
9. Wolford
10. Cross
11. Croker
12. Hindmarsh
13. Smith

Yes there is alot of inexperiance in the halves but what do we have to loose. Smith is tough enough for the forward and can be used as a ball playing forward. Cross in the next Lazzo and Waymen is the next Raging bull which I think would be better in the second row. I am still not sure on the backline but this one has alot of speed. Defence is the question though. Here are my reserves

14. McLindon
15. Adamson
16. Wayman
17. Martin

Another player I think that should be a permanent fixture in PL is Robertson. Sorry but the guy has zero redeeming qualities. He is not overly quick, is pretty small for a winger for todays standards, has a low strike rate when it comes to crossing the line and is very injury prone. I think Frawley, Chalk, Gafa, Graham and even Milne and PNG are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

yeh robbo plays with heart but, he lacks the skills, size and ability to be a long term 1st grader i believe. Elliott seems to be obessed with giving blokes who play with heart more of a go rather than playing young kids who have the talent. see robbo, bulgarelli, tryan smith, alan tongue & terry martin etc. Every top club needs 1 or 2 of these guys but, the raiders seem to have too many of them. It's time that the Raiders weed out the less talented blokes in the club in 05 if they want to be successful down the road. Elliott has to become more of a perfectionist rather than a optimist. Optimism doesn't win premierships.

I think its a given Frawley will be at center the first 5 rounds. He wouldn't have moved with this as his primary motivation if he isn't going to get the first shot at a center spot.

ditto, i totally agree  . and i think i can pinpoint what it is about Robertson: he lacks agility. i don't think i've seen him do anything else than run straight, he's like the polar opposite of matt bowen.
