2007 Betting

Not much happening in here lately so I thought i would open the Bookies bag and toss out some numbers for the 2007 campaign.

Connecticut Wildcats - $3.50 Favourites for back to back now the Glen Mills team is no more.

Penn Panthers - $4.50 Interesting to see how the go first year away from Glenn Mills and how many old/new faces turn up. If Dave Niu plays they are always a chance.

Jax Axe - $5.00 Equal second, will build on a huge debut year, surely this must be one hell of a tough trip for away teams

New York - $5.00 Have a good mix of age and youth, providing the keep their imports from last year I think they could be there on the big day.

Fight - $10.00 Its a week to week proposition with them, depends who turns up and how much Jeff Preston has done in the off season, may benefit greatly from the bulls demise, these odds may shorten quickly. **** Shorten with the news of the merger and new facilities****

New Haven - $12.00 Like their NRL namesakes, a real dark horse. If that Polynesian Power kicks in they could be unstopable

Sharks - $15.00 Will be hard pressed to make it much further than week one of the finals, they look to be rebuilding.

Slayers - $22.00 As above but with less experience, depends on who can get time off at the consulates to whether the play finals football this year.

Boston - $35.00 Unknown quantity, if they get support from the strong rugby clubs in the area they could be a big surprise.

Northern Raiders - $50.00 After a great start to their franchise they have lost their way a little, need to start from scratch and build a solid team and sponsorship base.

Fairfax - $100 Will enjoy the beers after the game more than the hiding they cop on it this year.

I have left out the new Philly team as I know squat about them, feel free to add anything or take a bet if you like

A few experienced bulls players and they will have a really good team IMO.

Wildcats, Wildcats, Wildcats;

This year will be our best year ever. We'll be returning 95% of last years team. Our youth investments over the last few years will be seen in the starting line up.

I'm sure the new Philly team, the JAXAXE will be good challange as will our old rival the sharks. However this year we're going to have a great team, and will hopefully have another awesome year in what seems to be panning out as the biggest and best year ever in the AMNRL.

I think the biggest question for all teams this year is how will teams shape up with the limit now on how many foreigners you can have for one game. The limit is 5, so that will drastically change the face of some teams.

Also, the limit to either 17 or 20 players per team in playoff games will even out the field.

JAX does not have any foreigners as Spinner is a green card holder I believe, and I believe Ashton will only have 1.

the new aston team will be pretty much the same as the bulls team, strong.

the sharks reached the semis last year with 8 players new to rugby league and all under 21 so can only improve.

slayers with marti and rich back to help with organization will be strong if they keep all the big boys they had.

not sure about fair fax. they seem confident though.

new haven self confiident it seems from reading posts on here. ( must be a self love thing up there in connecticut haha )

philly/media will be better off and produce numbers so will always be a threat.

dont know about the northern raiders.

Few changes in the odds with the latest announcements. 2007 looks awesome. Any chance of a mid season Origin type game over the next few years? There already seems like a bit of tension between divisions.

Another change that has been made in the 2007 competition is that the two-division system of play has been dissolved. There will now be 1 division, and the regular season will consist of 4 home matches, 4 away matches, and 1 match at the War At The Shore. This will make it a 9-week regular season, and it should make for better competition throughout the league.

With this change and several other small new changes this year in he league the AMNRL will be taking a HUGE step forward.

Tomahawk’s betting or predictions are as followed;

1. The Wildcats have to be the favorite, even know I do not believe they will be as good as they have been in past years. They are the champions until they are beat or a new champion is crowned. I say that because like it has been said previously there is a number of foreign players each team is aloud to have. However, the Wildcats will welcome back Greg Stellutti, who is a huge threat whenever he is on the field.


2. The Aston Delco Sports Club Bulls or Aston DSC Bulls also have to be at the same level as the Wildcats. I say that because these two teams have been battling in the championship game for the past 4 years with each team winning twice. The Bulls will be out to take back the AMNRL Championship, and bring it their new home in Aston Township. Also this will be several Bulls players last season, and would like to retire at the top of the game, and that is after winning a championship.

3. All the following teams I believe are on the same level

The Axeman are not over rated. Last season they were getting better each game. They will also be gaining key players that will only help develop the players they have now, but make the team better.

The New York will be back up at the top again. Last year they were injury plagued and still had a good season. Watch out for a healthy Knights team.

The Bucks County Sharks are the type of team that can beat anyone at anytime. They are a Cinderella team. They have reached the semis last year with 8 players new to rugby league and all under 21-years old, so can only improve. If they can just get over that hump they will reach the Championship match they have been so desperately wanting to play in.

The D.C. Slayers with Marti and Rich back to help with organization will be strong if they keep all the big boys they had. They also have been getting better each year. They were young last year and inexperienced, but still made the playoffs. Watch out for them in 2007

Even know I do not know much about the New Haven team they our self confident, and skilled. However, I think the new rules of the number of foreign players will hurt them also.

The new/old Philadelphia team should be strong. They will have key players fill in at the positions they needed. I have also herd this will be Jeff Preston’s last season and expect him to go out big.

Finally the Raiders and Eagles I do not know much about either team. So it would be unfair to say anything.

Expect some great matches in the 2007 season. I cannot wait.

Just a quick note. As of now Wildcats will only have 1 or 2 foriegn players with everyone else on the team a born american or greencard holder.

Not sure what the new rules are, but we have almost our entire team returning.

The Axemen will be strong but we are going to loss some players this season and are going to have to replace them with first timers again.
Thats the problem with veterans in the first few seasons. They get old and break.

This is obviously the logical way to play the season but is it financially viable for some teams? What format will the playoffs have?

Full draw is up on the wesbsite, www.amnrl.com, seems very fair, and i believe playoffs are on a point system.

Way to go for the AMNRL for getting everything settled so early in the year, the advance time to plan is great.

How long before you guys have a full home and away season?

9 games doesn't sound much, I know money and having people who work full time gets in the way, but I'm sure if you had atleast a 16 round comp with play off's and rep games, the game would move forward even faster.

The more games you play, the better the teams will be, plus it might be good for picking up more crowds, some guys might go to the second last game and think about going again, yet the seaons over in no time and not another thought about it until the next year, and thats if the fans remember, if they had more home games, I'm sure you could pick up more fans and players.

It is a nice dream for now. The biggest percentage of RL players in the USA still coem from local UNION clubs so we need to do our best to work along side them with our schedule. We are well aware of the benefits of more games and a longer season but money, travel, union and competition with the larger American sports (NFL, Baseball, etc) for crowds must all be considered.
