We could get a better figure in sydney if the ARL actually put some marketing effort into a sydney test match.

there is no reason why we cant get 50K in sydney , we simply cant expect to put on a test match at this stage and just expect people will turn up.

ftr there was 0 promotion for a 35K crowd.

We could get a better figure in Brisbane if the ARL actually put some marketing effort into a Brisbane test match as well.

I have no doubt.

Sydney however i think you will agree is going to be a tougher market to crack when it comes to test football.

Sydney is a market that is dictated by the media, and more specifically the Telecrap. If that paper embraced and promoted the sh*t out of this game, we could easily sell out Telstra, im not even joking... i mean they do so well to get 60K to Swans games (being the Swan's official paper and all) If the Telegraph were paid a large sum of money, this could be acheived.

You know what... just thought of this so it may be stupid. But is it at all possible that we are not seeing much advertising from the NRL/ARL cause they are saving cash for the Centenary celebrations?

Theres alot happening next year with the cup and all and they may be planning to put heaps of money into stuff to try and really boost numbers and have a defining moment in leagues history.

Union had a defining moment with their world cup, it was so full of promise right then. It was such a success and ARU had heaps of money up its sleeve cause of it. Clearly its not a good enough game to capture the publics imagination for very long.

Probably just hope but it would be good if that was the case.

Not really, heaps of big games at suncorp recently so its still pretty good. Im 100% sure we wouldnt have got that at any other stadium in Aus. Unfortunately it just doesnt have the same build up as an origin, even though it should.

Does that excuse just work for Brisbane?

But Le Kook is still right. Dunno what the answer is, though I am sure it's not taking it back to Sydney.
The answer is simple, don't over do it. I said it before the venue was awarded, and I said it when the venue was announced, and I've said it ever since - the game should have been allocated to Melbourne. But the ARL got carried away with a few successes in Brisbane and tried to milk the city for too much. Brisbane already had two Origin matches to sell this year as well as last week's local blockbuster between the Titans and the Broncos. Regardless of how much the city deserved to be rewarded for supporting the international game, the Test was just a big match too many. Meanwhile Melbourne has been left with nothing to follow up and consolidate last year's success down there. Even if they had've drawn the same crowd, 35,000 in Melbourne would have been much more valuable to the growth of the game than a two thirds filled Aussie or Suncorp Stadium.

9,909 in Melbourne.
Remember how the Storm's crowds rebounded after the Origin match last year? Just think what that Panthers crowd could've been if they'd been playing them a week from now - after hosting a Test match. I despair at how long we'll have to wait for our game to get truly serious about cracking the Melbourne market.

Good crowd in Melbourne considering the shocking weather.

12,500 would be my guess in fine weather.

Team Eddie McChins drew 35k at the MCG today, which is quite poor by their standards. That near 10k effort is great from the Storm, especially when you consider how archaic the facilities are at OP.

Collingwood will still average 50k+ this year.

Notice the 'by their standards' in that comment? I'm glad Corrective Services in Victoria give Collingwood fans weekend release for home games so they can get their numbers up.

The Storm drew well considering the conditions.
