Id have Kallis ahead of Michael Clarke in the current Australian team. Id go close to having him ahead of Symonds as well, except for Symonds fielding.

Clarke is one of our more consistent bats and arguably our best fielder. As far as the make up of the Australian side goes he is far more valuable than Kallis. Don't get me wrong, I rate Kallis as a great player but I'd never pick him over Clarke or Symonds....

When did fielding keep you a spot in a test side? Kallis is twice the batsman and twice the bowler that Symonds is and a very good slips fieldsman as well.

Too true - but when you have a side as consistently good across the board as Australia has been the Symonds ability to change a game with his fielding (Clarke has the ability too - but Symonds offers a better package) is a luxury the Australian team can afford to carry. No other nation perhaps could.

Yeah I think the Aussie team is about balance.

Haydos and Jaques have already demonstrated an ability to kick the innings off solidly, Ponting and Mr Cricket are solid and reliable run-scorers, Clarke is developing into the same - and if al else fails there is Symo and Gilly to change the game. Works well.

Given that make-up, however, if I had to pick Kallis over an Aussie it would be Clarke - he'd fill a similar role.

Nice generalisation of Kiwi posters Hevy.

the same way you generalised australians in the other thread?

thank god for ireland, canada, kenya and bangladesh. vettori played 4 games against australia this year and didn't take a wicket  and he only took a handful last year

Kallis is falling away in the bowling stock, but he is still an amazing player who i would love to have in the Aussie team. Probably at the expense of Jaques. His bowling is best used in short bursts, but he is quicker than he looks, can move the ball too. How many other 55+ average batsman can boast having 200+ test wickets in the bag?

Hayden
Hussey
Ponting
Kallis
Clarke
Symonds
Gilchrist

Great balance, & the extra paceman we need. Flintoff is a great great bowler IMO, especially in the ODI arena, but his batting in both forms still has LOTS of question marks.

you can't argue with Kallis' record this year, he had a very good year

shame he didn't get to face our bowlers this year, his record may have been different

i'd put kallis in a group that consists of guys like boycott and dravid(last 2 innings worth). And its not the 'technically correct group'.

Kallis would never fit into the aussie team anyway. far too interested in his average.

I wonder how good he'd be if he played to the same rules as the rest. The one bounce fair catch doesn't seem to apply to anyone but him.

Flintoff's bowling average in the ODI arena is excellent, around 25, with an economy below 4.4. And if you look at his Test career since the 2003/2004 test series against Sri Lanka, when he actually began bowling as a strike man, he has averaged around 24-26 with the ball since then, only recently peaking above 27 due to a poor Ashes series.

I'm wondering if some Aussies have ever actually seen Kallis play  As for batsmen concerned with their average, I give exibit #1 one Stephen Roger Waugh.. .

As for the suggestion that Kallis wouldn't be part of the Australian team if he was Australian  not even Australia can leave out someone averaging well over 55, with 200+ wickets at just over 30... FFS, you've been trying for years to get Watson in your team, and now you're suggesting you'd leave out one of the greatest batting allrounders ever?? FFS he'd bat 4, between Ponting and Hussey, and it really wouldn't matter who you'd have at six

But the question is, would he have made it into the Aussie side to start with. Look how many other great players really could not make it into the aussie side.

perhaps not as early as he made the RSA side, but Aust has been desperately trying to find an allrounder, and again you only need to glance at his record to see how unique he actually is

Kallis would walk into the Aussie side, FFS Watson played recently as a test all rounder. If he played for Australia he would probably play more attacking with less responsabilty on his shoulders.

... Why is it always the same dickheads who have to ruin every thread by trying to taunt others?
