There is bizarre, French bizarre and then just plain bazaar! The latest I have just heard concerning Jean-Alain Rives of St Gaudens, is that he has responded positively to the offer from Nicolas Larrat, to be the second French rep on the European RLF Board, alongside, Larrat, Lewis and Gary Tasker.
Bizarre because JAR was President of the LER, but not voted onto the Federation Exec Committee in December. French bizarre because of recent suspensions of St Gaudens directors.
But true bazaar in that Larrat has probably headed off a potential crisis around St Gaudens. After the suspensions it was rumoured that JAR was flirting the idea of switching St Gaudens to Union, something that occassionally happens in France, when you get fall-outs and suspensions of officials.
Being offered and accepting this position almost certainly guarantees any overtures from Union will be firmly put in the bin, and is a great facer in tthe egotistical world of sport club management. But then JAR has a wealth of experience in the sport as player, Director and Chair and hopefully this will re-invigorate the commitment to make St Gaudens strong again. The club has suffered financially this years the above confirms. Maybe it will also be an opportunity to bring in new blood.
