2009 ANZAC Test...

I know it would be too early to think about teams at this stage  but the Test is on in 4 months time, and Thurston has come out and said he is worried he may not be selected...

My main question is do you people think it may sell out at Suncorp given the WC result...

After getting crowds of around 27,000, the annual Test started getting figures of over 40,000 when NZ won the 2005 TNs. Do you think the NZ win will do the same for this match..??

Hopefully there will be interest as the World champs play the 2nd best team in the World, Australia. If the Warriors hit early season form it'll also help.

1 off test = exhibition game.

who cares.

They should re-name the bloody thing as well, its an insult to our soldiers.

Actually I think they did stop calling it that for that reason..

My fault, I was trying to give it a name..

They haven't called it the ANZAC test for a few years now...It's been the Bundy Test Match for a while

Should get 45,000 atleast. Hell Syndey might have even cracked 40k if the game was going to be there.

I hardly think it was an insult to the soldiers when it was known as the ANZAC test. It wasn't done to make a buck off that name, it was done to honour it.

i don't see us all crying "shame shame shame" on the pubs for milking ANZAC day for all its worth when we are in there getting drunk playing 2 up....

I guess St George Illawarra and the Sydney Roosters should stop playing on ANZAC day too because there's no NZ representation.

I'd like to have seen the game count towards the quad nations (Eng play France at same time). it would give it more meaning.

It would give it meaning if it was a 3 game contest, not some beat up, exhibition game designed solely to get a crowd through the gate using ANZAC day as an excuse.

aussie can shove their 1 offs right up their clacker..

It hasn't been called the ANZAC Test since 1999. When Super League came about, they paid the RSL a significant sum for the rights to use the term ANZAC which was granted for the period of 1997 - 1999.

After 1999 it was known as:
2000 - Visa Test.
2001 - Keno Test
2002 - Great Britain came out for the Arrive Alive Test
2003 - Rebel Sports Test
2004 - Bundaberg Rum Test
2005 - Bundaberg Rum Test
2006 - Bundaberg Rum Test
2007 - Bundaberg Rum Test
2008 - Bundaberg Rum Centenary Test Match
2009 - VB Test

Only once has the mid-year test ever been played on ANZAC day, so I'm not sure how the ARL are cashing in using the term or the day....

apart from the home ground advantage, there is no difference between both teams build up and chances. its just that australia are consistently the better team.

the game should be played on anzac day during the day, that would give it meaning.

and during that week, there shouldnt be any nrl games so we can also have png v fiji, and samoa v tonga played home and away in their respective countries.

I have to agree with Ozbash on this. It is a meaningless game as a one off. I think it is ridiculous to play the game this year. With NZ the current World Champions, it can only do harm to the international game, if they are caught unawares with a team missing players from the northern hemisphere. I think New Zealand should have played their ANZAC celebrations against either England, or even Wales, Ireland, Scotland, or France in New Zealand. This would help them push the World champions angle, would build up the minor nation, and if promoted properly would get a great crowd. Conversely, Australia's ANZAC celebrations are wasted against New Zealand. They should have capitalised on the increased profile of PNG, Fiji or even Samoa or Tonga. This year was the perfect chance to help grow the international game, but it looks like the big 3 have gone back to the same old ways that they usually do.

When this years Test is played in May, there is one more 'NRL' match the entire weekend..

City vs Country...

The International Weekend could have happened..
