What was the make up of the group you went to Wembley with Cas? Was it just a lads outing or was it a mixed/family trip? It would be easier for a young single guy who is working to afford the extra trip but how many family guys would take their wife and kids back down a couple of months later? It would then be case of either or and not both. Totally agree with you about networking the tickets through amateur clubs.

It was 18 of us, all veterans of 'Wembley Weekends' except 2 RL Virgins. I am a Family man myself, already planning Wembley for next year, but if this game goes ahead would look at maybe just going down for the day or staying overnight somewhere cheap.

The Club i am associated with are always after Equipment, and money back, vouchers for or Equipment itself would i am sure seing us take a coach load down, where as a few individuals might go on their own.

Either way its good to see Richard Lewis and a few others having the balls to 'GO' for it.

but would somewhere like White Heart Lane (36K capacity) be a worthwhile option?

Too hard to get to and hardly an inspiring venue to attract supporters

I think if you don't play at Wembley the only other option that the RFL should consider would be Emirates (Aresenal' ground - capacity 60,000).

Even then the match is likely to be in the middle of the soccer season and I would guess venue costs would be the same if not higher than Wembley

I spoke with Tas Bateri the other day and he confirmed it is a 4 nations to be held in 2009. It will include France.
The other interesting note was he said they are looking at a 6 nations in 2010 including 2 pacific sides.
I mentioned they needed the players to stay with one country. This is the reason for the pacific sides playing more big games. Hence the 6 nations.
Things are looking good.

I would rather see it stay at 4 nations TBH, if they feeel the need for a pacific side then 1 would do. Tonga, Samoa or Fiji would not be able to host a profitable home game. PNG might be able to.

Even after the enourmous Policing/tear gas costs have been taken into account?

It looks like we're trying to copy onion again all be it with a slightly different timescale and venue. We don't have six nations ready for this kind of competition yet and won't by 2010 either. When the 6 N reverts to Australia the Aussie public simply won't pay good money to watch the Kangaroos put seventy or eighty points on Tonga/Fiji. Let alone watching France play a PI nation. The only way to get a decent crowd to this type of match would be to take it outside of Sydney/Brisbane.

The RL Experience Event Company has a ad in RLW to ask punters to 'Register your interest in the 2009 Kangaroos' European Tour'........

Maybe they're having a few one-off games aswell. I hope so.

They should try and get atleast one game in against Wales, Ireland, Scotland or even Russia in whilst they're over there. So should NZ, and France and England for that matter.

The Newcastle Herald had a classifieds ad for "Great Events" with a "Daryl Brohman led tour with the 2009 Kangaroos to Europe"

So, if there is event companies actually advertising, then something must be confirmed...

Note though, none of the ads says "Four Nations" but "2009 Kangaroo Tours"

but playing france in france & england in england as part of the 4 nations would consitute a "tour of europe"

Merely semantics...

I'd say that the fact it mentions "Europe" is - like Roughyspud says - a tour of France as well as probaly the land mass known as GB.

I just mention it doesn't confirm the NAME of the tournament..

4 Nations including France is a good next step. Going to 6 would be too much too soon. The Pacific Nations could have regular competition against each other and the Celtic Nations. Regular games and tours will encourage players to stay loyal to these teams rather than taking a punt on other nations they may be eligible for.

As for venues, the RFL should consider bigger venues. Often they are in larg cities that are accessible to travel to. City of Manchester Stadium was better than Huddersfield. Give London a go too! Of course afternoon games would help crowds. You rad a lot on forums about people not going to nght Tests in the UK because of the travel. Unfortunately TV rules but afternoon games will attract more people in Oz. I grew up watching Kangaroo Tour matches and Challenge Cup finals on Saturday nights in Australia.
