2009: NSW - (Peter Wallace + bounce of the ball) = series win?

QLD won this series on the back of lucky bounces and horribly inept NSW halves in the first 2 games.

NSW put in the most dominant performance in the series (by far) in the third game.

Did the selectors and coach pretty much lose NSW the series?

The NSW team of last night played the best football of this series, better than even QLD in games 1 and 2 in my opinion. However i think with the team picked last night QLD may have still JUST clinched the series as they probably would of stepped up a gear. But it would have been a GREAT series to watch had NSW played in games 1 & 2 like they did last night. Like Phil Gould said last night lets bring them back next week and have a game 4 hahaha.

You seem to be forgetting that the only reason NSW came within 10 points in game one was because of lucky bounces and ricochetes for arsey tries.

QLD didnt put in particularly dominating peformances because quite frankly, we didnt have to. QLD didnt get out of second gear in game one and only had to make a minor step up from that for game two.

NSW lost the series in the opening 20 minutes of games one and two. If they came out fired up and ready to play, and didn't let Qld get a huge lead, it would have been a different story. This is where a coach like Gould is a bonus, every Gould coached NSW side came out ready to play.

agree, queensland were gifted this series,if kimmorley and barrett had started game 1 they'd have won the series without a doubt, the maroons have a lot of work to do with their forward pack next year, they know it as well. Bar Hannant and Costigan they're in some trouble trying to find replacements for the bookends up front who will be past their best by then

Whilst that might be true, its just as easy for us to say "Well if QLD came out and got an even bigger lead, it wouldnt have mattered how fired up NSW were".

its all just If's and but's

I know it is, but I think one of the big differences between the sides is the head coaches. Qld have an origin legend, who everyone up there loves and respects. NSW have a schemer, who is more suited to the NRL based on his intensity and tactics. last time NSW had an origin legend coaching them (Ricky Stuart) they won the series. I'd prefer Sticky to Belly.

I agree that NSW really need to find themselves an Origin legend (or a group of) to coach them rather than Bellamy, but i dont think it would have changed a great deal with regard to how the series unfolded. Bellamy was still the coach last night and NSW played much better than game 1 and 2, it was just poor performances against a stronger opponant and picking the wrong players in key positions that hurt NSW this year.

It's quite simple really... If the Wolfman and Farah (Who was injured and put himself infront of the team) didn't play in Origin 2 NSW would've won the series 2-1.

Yeah well if there wasn't a Big Bang billions of years ago the universe wouldn't exist.

I agree.

However its also true that if QLD never dropped a ball, conceded a penalty or missed a tackle we would have won 3 - 0.

You seem to have forgotten that Jerrod Haynes scored the first try in origin 1, if the video ref (who was sacked) had to take 10 look at something, it was benefit of the doubt, just like the Qld try last night, if that was rewarded, Qld would not have scored at the other end, it is a different ball game

Jerrod Haynes was rightfully denied in game one because its outside of the laws of the game to stand on the touch line. The video referee was sacked after game two, not game one, because of both QLD and NSW were unhappy with his performances.

Hayne was in. He was on his toes, thus it looked like his heal was out. If Slaters try was a try, if Williams try was a try, and Johnsons try a try, then Hayne's should have been a try.

Stupid logic, if those other tries were dissallowed would you then agree that Hayne's should have been too? You cant just say that because one try gets awarded that a completely separate one should be too.

I don't agree that last night was the most dominant performance. Whilst NSW won by 12, it was a lot closer than that. If Willie Tonga scored - and let's be honest, it was horribly close - the entire game changes. Posession and field position were very even and Queensland led line breaks 9-7.

Not sure how that translates into a dominant performance.
