I don't really give a toss whose system it is. There is absolutely no reward at all for being minor premier or anywhere in the top 4. In 2014 the Dogs made the GF from 7th spot, just making them cannon fodder in the GF.
If you finished 1st, wouldn't you rather play the 8th placed team in the semis rather than 4th ? If 2nd, I'd much rather play the 7th placed team than the 3rd. Where the hell is the reward for finishing in the top 4 ?

I can't believe there are still people defending the McIntyre system. It only works for a 3 week single elimination system, not a double chance system.

2011 is all you need to look at. A 6th placed Warriors side got belted by 20+ by 3rd place and were "punished" by playing 4th place the following week. They then made the GF.

What a garbage system.

2013 Roosters. Easily. It's not even close.

For 2nd best, you could make a case for all teams really. Dragons defence. Storm clinical. Manly all round attack. Souths monster pack.

I just can't include Cowboys & Sharks in the discussion - conceding 400+ in defence is too much to be held in the top echelon

If you had a gun to my head....

2013 Roosters
2010 Dragons
2014 Rabbitohs
2011 Manly
2012 Storm
2016 Sharks
2015 Cowboys

This is probably gonna be an unpopular opinion, but I think Cowboys are easily the worst of those premiership teams

Yeah 2013 Roosters for sure. Surprised Manly in 2011 aren't getting more love. Class all over the park with the likes of DCE, Glenn Stewart and Tony Williams in career best form.

The 2013 Roosters are the only minor premier to premier since they adopted the truly shit AFL finals system and flicked the good old McIntyre. I guarantee there won't be many more Minor Premiers who win anything this decade. I really really hate this finals system as it punishes the crap out of the top four, while teams 5-8 get a much easier battle. It's rubbish, get rid of it. This really deserves it own thread.

Well in the McIntyre system you could lose 3rd and 4th in the first week if all of the top four got beat. That's not a reward for finishing higher up. The current system allows 1-4 a second chance should they lose in the first week and it's sudden death for 5-8 from the outset, as it should be. If they're good enough to win the grand final from there then they deserve to be premiers.

I have a agree but I believe there is far more parity than a simple 1 - 7 ranking can demonstrate
I would say that the Roosters & Dragons were the best sides because of their defences with Souths and Manly on par very close behind. Then a gnats chuff behind those two are the Storm, Sharks and Cowboys. More of an equal 1, 2, 3 than a 1 through 7.

I went with the Roosters 2013.

Their attack was better than the Dragons 2010 side with about the same defence.

All the sides in the list would win on their day tho.
