We aren't talking about which team was the best over a period of time. We are talking about which team is best. The 2013 roosters team was great, but in my opinion they got better in 2014. They lost mortimer and O'Donnell, but guys like Napa, rts and tupou were no longer rookies, friend, boyd, pearce and guerra were all in better form. The question asked is would 2014 rabbitohs beat 2013 roosters in a head to head match, and considering the 2014 rabbitohs team pretty much beat 2013 roosters mk2 shows they have a strong case in this thread.
Our team in 2013 was better then 2014 by a mile. Out of out three minor premiership years our 2014 one was the worst.

2013 Roosters would beat every team here. In my extremely biased opinion.

Alot of people forget how clinical the 2010 dragons were.

I'd put them against any of these teams and be confident that team could keep it to a grinding win.

I'm biased, but I agree the 2010 Dragons were clinical with an excellent defence.

During the 2010 semi final series, they conceded 0 points in the second half.

Ok just for a bit more stats, the for and against stats in the regular season for them all -

2010 Dragons: 17 wins, 7 losses, For - 515, Against - 299. Finished as Minor Premiers.
2011 Manly: 18 wins, 6 losses, For - 539, Against - 331. Finished 2nd.
2012 Storm: 17 wins, 7 losses, For - 579, Against - 361. Finished 2nd.
2013 Roosters: 18 wins, 6 losses, For - 640, Against - 325. Finished as Minor Premiers.
2014 Souths: 15 wins, 9 losses, For - 585, Against - 361. Finished 3rd.
2015 Cowboys: 17 wins, 7 losses, For - 587, Against - 454. Finished 3rd.
2016 Sharks: 17 wins, 1 draw, 6 losses, For - 580, Against - 404. Finished 3rd.
The Roosters +/- of 315 is miles ahead of anyone else, and is the best of any Premiership winning team since the 1998 Broncos.

It's indicative of a dynamic attack that could score from anywhere and a brick wall defence that holds the all-time record for shut outs since 1908.

It really was the complete team.

Obviously I'm biased. Nevertheless from a statistical point of view they're the clear stand outs.

Okay here's some stats

If each sides Regular season record was set out like a ladder

SYD 2013 - 18 W, 6 L, Pts Diff +315 = 36 Pts
MAN 2011 - 18 W, 6 L, Pts Diff +208 = 36 Pts
CRO 2016 - 17 W, 1 D, 6 L, Pts Diff +176 = 35 Pts
STI 2010 - 17 W, 7 L, Pts Diff +219 = 34 Pts
MEL 2012 - 17 W, 7 L, Pts Diff +218 = 34 Pts
NQL 2015 - 17 W, 7 L, Pts Diff +133 = 34 Pts
SOU 2014 - 15 W, 9 L, Pts Diff +224 = 30 Pts

CRO 2016 beat 14 of the other 15 sides
SYD 2013, MAN 2011, MEL 2012, NQL 2015, SOU 2014 beat 13 of the other 15 sides
STI 2010 beat 12 of the other 15 sides

STI 2010 spent 23/26 weeks at first
MEL 2012 spent 16/26 weeks at first
CRO 2016 spent 10/26 weeks at first
SYD 2013 spent 5/26 weeks at first
MAN 2011, SOU 2014 & NQL 2015 spent 0/26 weeks at first

In their respective years:
SYD 2013 were ranked 1 in Attack and 1 in Defence
MAN 2011 were ranked 1 in Attack and 2 in Defence
MEL 2012 were ranked 2 in Attack and 1 in Defence
SOU 2014 were ranked 3 in Attack and 1 in Defence
CRO 2016 were ranked 3 in Attack and 3 in Defence
NQL 2015 were ranked 2 in Attack and 5 in Defence
STI 2010 were ranked 8 in Attack and 1 in Defence

So based on all that I'd say SYD 2013 from MAN 2011 and CRO 2016.

Ultimately a fool's errand because you are attempting to bring in objectivity into something that is ultimately subjective.

The other problem is statistics can always be interpreted to suit your own argument- "there are 3 types of lies- lies, damned lies and statistics".

You can choose your top based on total points, then for / against, just like a regular ladder. But, how do you know that opposition teams were of similar strength in other years?

You could also say the majority of teams that won the comp from 2010-2016 (57%) had the best defence, but only 29% have the best attack, so the team with the best defence (St George) is number 1.

You see- an objective opinion based on statistics, but I can hear the subjective howling down even as I finish this post.
P.S. I will admit that I'm not objective when it comes to St George.

Don't get me wrong I thought that was a very good Dragons side - and I personally have them 3rd on that list - but I felt that the comp was very weak that year.

The Panthers finished 2nd and were rather average. Perhaps the worst 2nd placed team I can recall and they went out in straight sets.
The Tigers were probably the 2nd best side that year and yet they finished with a F/A of + 34. And the Titans finished 4th with an F/A of + 22.

The Roosters got very hot at the right time of the year but we benefited from a very average top 4; completely thrashing the Panthers and Titans to reach the GF.

The Storm being forced to play for nothing that year left a huge vacuum in the comp in 2010.

Contrast that with 2013 where the entire top 4 of Roosters, Souths, Melbourne and Manly finished with F/As of over +200. That's only happened one other time this century - 2002.

So it was a real high quality season with some great teams making up the finals.

cowboys in '14 could win from anywhere and nearly ran down the Roosters remember

basically the same team that won in '15

11 straight wins was nothing to sneeze at

and the greatest ever halfback, JT

That's why I have them 2nd overall.

But they came 3rd and had an F/A of +133 which ranks them clearly behind the 2013 Roosters imo.

A difference of + 315 to +133 is enormous and can't be overlooked. Best attack and best defence vs 2nd best attack and 5th best defence. Those are clear distinctions between the two.

Roosters 2013 by far.

Rabbits 2014 was nothing special, lucked out who they got in the GF.

All very valid points and having considered them carefully, I'm gonna have to vote for the Cowboys because they're my team.

That is a selection of teams that played seriously boring football.
Tigers 2005 was the last truely entertaining premiership team.

I went dragons (biased as well)

only football side I watched week in week out that I knew would win the minute they hit a lead

their ability to smother the opposition was special

if they all played eachother in some kind of weird tournament?

f**kn who knows.

Manly 2011 were pretty dominant.

Dragons wouldn't let you score.

Dragons vs Manly Grand Final in the weird tournament.
