Maybe some clubs who really struggle to pull crowds during origin should sell special ticket packages for their home games in the origin period? say 3 games for the price of 2 or just dirt cheap tickets.

Not surprised at the sharks crowd- saturday night, raining, origin period, out of town team, poor form. If they come across some money in the near future, they really need to invest in some more covered seating as by the looks of it the rain gods do not like Cronulla, it just seems to rain there every time i watch the sharks!

There was no way in the world, there was 8K at the Sharks game. Was probably around 5,500.
Commentators on the radio were saying this also.

Someone in here (or maybe it was somewhere else) said a while back that clubs tend to shave a bit off their top crowds and top up their sh*t ones, so the average remains the same but they avoid showing crowds like 5000.

Not sure if its true but it wouldn't surprise me.

There's 5000 Sharks fans..!!??

I think the best bet would be to relegate Sharks to NSW Cup and bring in the Bears..

A one town team with a stadium that holds 25k only getting 13k... not that great. Their averages are WAY down.

we are playing like $hit and have now for 3 years straight, what the hell do you expect, honestly????

we would be coming last or equal this year if it wasn't for Melbourne, yet we are about on par with what your team pulled when you were coming last in 2008????? considering the bulldogs are renowned for having one of the biggest supporter bases in Australia's biggest city, you see where I am going with this...................

they were getting 20k averages a few years back in 05/06 iirc.. the team's form isn't helping at all

for a one town team, they should be getting much higher

and what is the population of said town????

180k...............

and the closest other town with a population over 20k is over 3.5 hours drive away.

Exactly.

Sydney population = 4.5M
Teams = 9

That makes 500,000 fans per team, Townsville = 180K

Even when you add Cairns (160K) and Mackay (100K), which are both well over 3.5 hours away, you still only get 440K fans.

In 2008, Bulldogs average 15.3K, this year the Cowboys are averaging 15.4K.

See in 2008, we only finished a position ahead yet averaged 3K more.

Last year we got 5th in home ground attendences.

Your population arguments are useless when this team HAS averaged 18,19k in the past. I'm worried that not even a home fixture against Brisbane will do much up that way, has the marketing fallen over or something? It can't just be form, we're talking crowds at least 5 or 6k lower than previous years...
Dogs crowds are also propped up by the 'away' support from otehr teams based in the next suburb...
You'll find apart from maybe Souths, Parra and Saints games, more than 75% of the crowd is Bulldogs.
