2011 Bundy Cup

The real tragedy here is that we seem to have lost another club...Does anyone know if there is anything being done to get some sort of amalgamation to keep the competition at 8 teams and avoid having a bye? Perhaps somebody at NSWRL could contact Manly or Cronulla who might be interested in at least putting their excess 20s and NSW Cup players somewhere so that they get a game with any players left from the Bulls...Sutherland Bulls playing out of Sutherland Oval coached by Lance Thompson???

You are spot on about losing a club. Apart from Wenty, who played in this tier whenever it was operating since the early 60's, Bulls and Cabra came in 2000, Entrance and Windsor in 2003 and Mounties in 2006. All the other clubs that have started have not lasted long.

Kingsgrove are putting in the effort but like the Bulldogs they are a "development" team. Apparently the definition of success for the Bulldogs is to lose by less than 40.

2011 may be the last season for this comp. Cabra, Mounties and Wenty should start looking at the Illawarra comp for quality. Wenty and Ryde Eastwood played in Illawarra for a few years in the 70"s when the metro comp closed down for 12 years.

When only 6 team lists went up on the NSWRL website on Tuesday someone named James asked if the Bulls were gone. He did not get a reply and this morning the comment has been deleted.

The Fox show on Wednesday said the Bulls were playing Windsor at Norford this week but Big League has big coverage of the collapse.

It says that the players that are left want to continue as part of a team but will not play for nothing and without the Erskinville deal the Bulls dont have a zac.

I recall reading that Mulholland was one of the inventors of the points sytem that dummed down the comp in 2003. The way he goes on about the teenagers at the Bulldogs, Kingsgrove and Windsor on the Fox show, I reckon the final nail in the coffin for the comp will be a proposal that all teams have 10 players under 19!!!!!

Anyway with Wenty and Windsor way down on last years standard we are virtually down to a 3 team comp with Wenty providing the occasional upset. When Cabra get the 2 points for the Bulls game they will be equal with Mounties on 10 teams. So everyone should get out to Cabra tonight to watch a rare classy game between Cabra and Mounties. Pitty about the weather.

The Bulls were tremendous in their business club there is no doubt about that but were poor in building core community support. Their functions were outstanding in raising money as well and at excellent venues. The Bulls had a lot of players who would then have been on 20k but players no the big name players but others have complained that they signed non NSWRL agreements but not given copies of said agreements saying fines would be incurred for failing to wear team gear yet never given details. I understand that players also have a committment to selling tickets but these are the stories running around. You would be surprised on how little Terry Rowney throws in to the football club and we have other directors who actually are responsible for our sponsorships. We also do not have a leagues club behind us as the club is not trading well enough to contribute nor has it it for a few years. Kingsgrove is using this comp as a development stage and give kids who are eligible for 20;s and a few others a chance to play at a higher level and not being paid unless they have money in the bank at the end of the year.
I do agree that there were people atthe Bulls no longer there who have done their best to lose sponsors and hurt the club but rumours were floating around last season that the club was unable to pay all players, otherwise why did they leave. It is a shame that the club has folded though, they were a very successful club that failed to build on its success in crowd support.

Just heard a story that after seeing how weak the Bulldogs Bundy side is, the St Johns club from Lakemba have decided to enter the comp from Round 9.

Interesting move considering they dont even have an A Grade this year. If true we could see up to 3 floggings every week.

Cabra 48 Windsor 10 (H/T 26-0)

Wenty 54 Kingsgrove 8 (H/T 32-0)

Entrance 60 Bulldogs 0 (H/T 34-0)

Mounties 48 St Johns 26 (H/T 16-14)

Looks like the new club put in a good effort for half the game but the other 3 games were floggings.

pretty much same team. The lebanese contingent had suprisingly followed the coach after his promise of a major sponsor for the bulls apparantely fell through. It was a few of the players he has now at st johns who had threatened to pull the pin if they didnt get paid. The coach didnt make on his promise at the bulls so the club cut ties with him as they were not wearing the costs associated with running the team. The only reason the Bulls entered this season was that if he got to coach the team he would bring the sponsors.. it didnt happen,so now there becomes st johns..

Cabra makes it 9 from 9 By beating the Entrance 26-18 in a great game of footy

In the other games, Mounties, despite having 9 out injured, beat the Bulldogs 58-6.

Windsor beat Kingsgrove 40-16
St Johns 44 beat Wenty 36.

Anybody know how Louis Vaiotu is going? His older brother Francis is a monster. He is fast, strong and very light on his feet. He stands at 193cm and weighs in at 100kg. Not too bad for a centre.

how does a former nrl first grader/ esl player like charlie leano survive weekly playing for the colts? surely he was earning decent enough coin overseas... this may go with a few others in this comp
