2011 is not a rebuilding year

I knew we would go crap when our halves were consistently named as

6. Mortimer
7. Robson
Well that pair got us to the 2009 Grand Final, understandable that they got the lions share of 2010 as a combination.

What's not understandable imo is that after Anderson "rested" Mortimer from the halves in August 2010, Kearney put him straight back there to start 2011...

I was actually surprised in the last 8 weeks how close we got to some of the top teams. But that also coincided with the splitting of our Grand Final halves pair.
Me too, and credit where credit is due - to Kearney and this squad that was apparently so weak we can't expect much of them.

But the change in form wasn't due to splitting the Grand Final halves pairing - it was just due to Kearney finally dumping Morts for Round 11. If we can sell Morts to the Roosters for 2012, things will b e looking even more promising for next year!

It is a rebuilding year - so plainly obvious as to make this original post and thread unduly negative (surprise, surprise). Still, each to their own.

It certainly wasn't intended to be negative.

I'm just trying to temper my expectations for 2012.

I am 100 per cent confident that we will achieve better results next year, but I think there will be still a lot of "rebuilding" going on. As others have put it, perhaps this is the demolition season and in 2012 the Eels will be building something new.

A lot of people have criticised some of Kearney's choices this year, but I wonder if it's because he's experimenting to see what might work going forward (although I just don't get his use of the bench).

I remember a few people saying that Morts would come good once we got rid of the shit coach (Ando) and put a decent one in place (SK). So maybe SK thought the same and gave Morts a go.

I might even dig up the old thread later. It's a good read.

In 2012, you will be able to look forward to 2013, and in 2013 looking ahead to 2014...and so it goes.

2011 has been an outright waste

Kearney won't see out his contact
Yeah cause every year we don't win the premiership is a wasted year. Sometimes you've just got to be realistic. If you change players and coaches, it takes some time to be competitive. I don't agree with the handling of Ando... to do it twice in a row would be an absolutely horrendous decision

Careful Bartman or you will also be accused of wearing a tin foil hat. ;-)

That's the way I see it too, 84 Baby. SK at least needs to see out his contract. We can't keep chopping and changing.

Just on that topic, what do you think will happen should we miss the 8 again in 2012? Personally, I believe this is the man the current board wanted all along so I think they may wear it and let him see out 2013. It's all speculation of course. I would like to think we would at the very least make the top 8 next year.

The way I see it, every year you can split the comp into 4 groups, teams that play well throughout the year (usually top 4), couple of teams who have a few good streaks during the year to comfortably make finals, a bunch of teams who struggle but battle each week and have to play maths game come season end, and then there's the spoon contenders.

If we're spoon contenders again next year then he'll be let go. If we're in the next group battling for 8th spot, he'll be there for 2013, even if we end up missing the finals... and if that happens this forum would be a very fun place to be

Sterlo once made a comment that in any given season it was the team's results in the close games that defined success or failure. This has been so true of the eels this year.
Next year , if the team is able to reverse the trend , I feel we are in for a successful season.
Maybe not the premiership , but certainly final four is a realistic goal.

Ding ding ding! A good half back and less reliance on Hayne would've seen us win some of those tight ones and be further away from the cellar. But those are the breaks!

Rebuilding year, a year where the club wipes off the cobwebs, clears out all its old junk and replaces with new players ready for 2012.

True. But they damn well better be ready for 2012 - from the get go, no bullshit about settling the new players in, or else another year will be gone

Shut up pete.

Yeah. Think it must have been the cheese and bickies I had with a bottle of red. Have taken some Agarol, that usually clears it. I'll be right by morning.

I usually have a bowel movement at 7 am..The bad thing is I don't wake up until 8....
