Mata has had the best stats of any EPL player over the past three seasons from memory. He's easily worth 40 million pounds, especially when you compare him to other players bought for that kind of money.

But yes, he isn't really what United need. Then again, many (myself included) were convinced Ozil was not what Arsenal needed either. Turns out that buying a world class player in a position where you already have a great player can work a charm.

Mata will give the whole Man Utd squad a breath of fresh air. That's what they need at the moment. In terms of ability i think Rooney and Mata are on the same level.

Obviously they're a better team with Mata than without him but he's not what they need to get in the top 4. Smart money would still be on Liverpool finishing ahead of them.

 Wirey is too busy talking to the 6 years olds around his way.

I was but i went to the pub to get drunk so i could call the police.
As you have to be at least 11 to start drinking in pubs around here though I pointed them in the direction of the Spurs thread. They will feel right at home. ;-)

Mata is very good at assists and creating. Given we have trouble in that area it can only be a good thing. Plus it may mean we actually drop Valencia.

We had 70% of the ball in the first 20 mins vs Chelsea and didn't look close to doing anything with it.

He will play from the left when everyone is fit and be the long term successor to Giggsy. If he gets a squad number higher than 11 then he will eventually take that number.

As a number 10, Rooney is the best at more things. Mata is very good though. Those two and Januzaj playing behind a front man will be very nice.

Probably not the place, but rumour of a bid for Saints left back Shaw and Moyes was with Kroos agent last night. But the talk is that it is a negotiating tactic for Kroos to get more money as his contract has 18 months left and he was scouting Hermann the German from Borussia Monchengladbach.

A new Centre mid and left back to go with the creativity Mata adds would be very welcome.

Carrick holding, Mata attcking, Rooney behind Van Persie up front. Dead simple. Mata is so much better than any other attacking mid option we currently have: Fellaini, Kagawa, Cleverley, Anderson (on loan), Giggs, Powell (on loan).

Of course one player isn't going to magically solve our problems. At this point, we shouldn't be bothered about finding a silver bullet, but building for next year and beyond. A player the quality of Mata will aid that immensely.

It would be going away from the traditional wingers, but no players or teams nowadays will match the midfield 4 we used to have so I guess it is worth a go.

Fellaini and Cleverly are mids though so have their own battles for those places.
Anderson is gone, Giggs is retiring, Kagawa is rubbish and should go back to the Kids league.
Powell is going to be a player in a season or two. Maybe as a mid, poss as an attacking mid. For his sake, i would train as a centre mid. I always had him down as Carricks replacement.

But yeah, their is no silver bullet. But we are not far off. Hopefully Mata can start to provide from the width and take pressure of Januzaj. Rooney coming back will be a big help to.

A draw for Arsenal leaves the door open for Citeh and Chelsea

Reality check for Everton

And another important win for Palace gives them a bit of breathing room

Is this another Arsenal stumble mid season?

You can see Man City belting Spurs tomorrow, going top and never relinquishing it.

Hope not

Wins for Chelsea, Tottenham, West Brom and Sunderland tomorrow morning would make me very happy indeed

Dont know what to expect tomorrow. Could go either way.

With AVB we couldn't buy a goal, since Sherwood took ever we've gone nuts and we are second only to Citihad for goals scored and haven't lost a game which was really surprising and Citihad have been poor away from home.

Also we get Sandro, Paulinho, Vertongen and Townsend back.

You talking league, or league and cups? Because in the league since Sherwood has taken over, you have scored 14 goals, the same as Liverpool, and thats not counting the 4 we put in this morning ;)

Arsenal off the hook thanks to our pathetic effort this morning

We deserved to lose by five. Luckily we were only playing a Championship level team

We didn't deserve to lose, West Ham offered nothing in attack after the 15th minute. West Ham scrambled well and played the perfect defensive game. They deserved the point more than we deserved the extra 2. 20+ blocked shots is an indication of that.

Credit to them.
