Wrong. I love that jersey. Here are some of the other best ones ever IMO (sorry I don't know how to post images)...

Storm 2003
Sharks 1997-01
Knights 1997-00
Knights 2001-04
Tigers 2005
Bears 1999
Bulldogs 1998-11
Panthers 1991-96

I also really liked the design of the Broncos & Raiders (same jersey) from 1997-99 --- just that their colours didn't especially suit the model. Another team could really rock those kits.

But Panthers is still top of the heap.

Anyway, here are my ideas for the Chooks, Bunnies & Saints...

Roosters --- take the Panthers design, make the white part into navy, & the rest alternatingly red & white.

Bunnies --- the Knights 1997-00 jersey OR their 2001-04 jersey, just with green in place of blue.

Saints --- Take the jersey the Bulldogs wore for many years (up until 2011) & make the front blue part red. This would still be a V shape whilst looking a thousand times better.

I know none of this will ever happen --- but its nice to dream.

That's the one. Magnificent.

I am so sick of the same old tired shit the Roosters, Rabbitohs & Dragons continue to wear. What people fail to realise is that those, "classic," jumpers weren't born instantly classic --- the hoops, V, & tri-colour were designs which reflected fashion at the time. Times have changed & while they obviously have the weight of history now, that doesn't change the fact they look like shit by way of being so immensely outdated. Yes, I know 1997 wasn't yesterday, but it damn sure wasn't the 1920's, either.

Now, I've seen some awesome jerseys --- most from the Super League & NRL era --- but that Panthers one takes the cake & always has. Splendid & I would pay $200 in a heartbeat for the Chooks to sport something like that for even one season (or one game even!)

Would you say the the Panthers jersey reflects the fashion of today? That Panthers jersey, and most other Super League jerseys, reek of 90's fads and designers creating something because they now had the technology available to them. That sort of approach to design has an extremely short lifespan which is why you see all of these current disaster being rotated in and out every three years with no afterthought.

The iconic looks are generally simple, bold and memorable. The past certainly wasn't immune to terrible looks either and in general they have been replaced. What remains are unmistakable, iconic looks that clubs and fans identify with. You'd throw that away?

No thanks. Broncos and Warriors fans get baited every year with a new jersey they have to fork $$ out for. I like having the same traditional jersey, it works for us. You don't see the NBA changing the Knicks or Bulls home singlets. Why change something that ain't broke?

Storm 03 was probably their best look ever.
Sharks 97-01 was too far removed from an iconic look.
Knights 97-00 is iconic.
Knights 01-04 less so, especially since the Rams weren't too far gone.
Tigers 05 was the ugliest premiership jersey in history
Bears 99 would work now with some simplifications
Bulldogs 97-11 was several different designs. They had it right towards the end (except for last years design) and I wouldn't have been upset if they kept it.
Panthers 91-96 is a solid design but wholly overrated, completely boosted by their success in it.
Raiders/Broncos were disasters, captured my imagination as a child to get into design but I grew out of it. You should too.

None of those suggestions are improvements on their current designs.

Innovation needs to occur regardless.

Were the horse & cart broke as a means of transportation? Certainly not --- but that doesn't invalidate the creation of the car or plane, does it?

I know some teams always change, but the upside for them is more choice. They only have to buy the designs they like, you know? Put it this way, if I were a Sharks fan, Id still own the jersey they wore from 1997-01, & never bought another one because its their best yet.

Throw it away? No, no. Certainly not. Just once in a blue moon, give me a choice of something flashier is all I'm saying. Try something different for one bloody season, Easts.

I understand what you mean by innovation. For sure. But jerseys represent a team over the ages and to mess with that is messing with their identity IMO. Alternate jersey for sure. But the basic home jersey I think should stay. Raiders home jersey last night as an example was terrible. They were all blue, aren't they supposed to be the Green Machine!?!?!

About ten years ago the Wollongong Bulls used to wear the Bulldogs design in red and white. It looked good, but it just wasn't the Dragons. Would have made a good one-off jersey though.

Tigers one looked good in orange only.

I know the Bulldogs made a lot of minor modifications over the years, but the only major ones I recall were 1998 (dropping the V on the back of the jersey from 97) & 2012 (cutting part of the shoulder out).

Interesting.

A while back I made some of these jerseys on PES for the PS3, using a combination of Internet resources & the games own Kit Creator. One of them was what the Bulls mustve worn. I liked it, anyway.

To be fair, that wasn't anything spur of the moment. Those are the sporting colours of Canberra, & were almost chosen when the Raiders first entered in 1982.

Canberra were in centenary jerseys last night, to commemorate 100 years since Canberra was established. ACT colours are blue and gold so that's what they played in last night.

Straightened the yoke out, added/removed piping, alternates, manufacturer changes shifting the yoke down so that they are cut off by the sleeves.

I remember it well, didn't like it. A lot of that had to do with the lighter shade of red that they used.

And amadaca, you are in the minority with regards to wanting to butcher the Easts jersey. The world over, the vast majority of sports fans are wanting their teams to have something with a timeless characteristic. Penrith 98-00 is not timeless, it's actually pretty tacky.

I don't want to butcher it. I just want something a little more contemporary in addition to the classic look.

It pisses me off that I have our 2012 jersey, yet I can see essentially the identical thing on the rack in the Retro Jerseys section which has an Easts jumper from 1975. Annoying!

Let's go to the NFL for a moment. Look at the most popular teams: Dallas, Green Bay, Chicago, both NY teams, Miami. Their jerseys now and then are essentially the same. Some teams change and it works, others fail miserably.

If STGI want to do something radical, I don't want it to be on the home/main jersey. The red V is what it is, and should never change. But I have an ANZAC jersey from about 2004/5, and it was a nice change. But I would never want them to wear that as their regular jersey.

I know. I would only need them to do something like the Panthers one once, though, & I would pounce.

I know that will never happen, though.

BLADES mustve reduced their sponsorship with WTs

I don't think so. The logo on that area was just an added one as the Tigers didn't have a different sponsor there, the addition of the blades X's on the shoulders this year would indicate that they were prepared to not have the logo on the front of the jerseys.

There is something majestic about the St George-Illawarra Red V, the Rabbitohs red and green hoops, the Bulldogs Blue V / shoulder, the Roosters saddle tri-colours, Manly-Warringah's maroon and white hoop style, the Sharks 80's style jersey.

I understand the whole merger thing, but why the Tigers can't do a tremendous mostly orange and black embellishment strip (they are the Tigers after all) is beyond me. Why they can't do a Balmain inspired HOME jersey and a Wests inspired AWAY jersey is all beyond me. [[ A bit like Saints with their Illawarra full scarlet/red jerseys ]].

For mine, I am a fan of hoops (Souths), V's (Saints or Dogs) or full colour (Canberra, Newtown, Illawarra).

I also really like the current Penrith black jersey - I think the red OAK sponsor works nicely on it.

And there's just too many jerseys. I understand why for revenue, but I dunno. But that's just me. Each to their own.

I'd like to see the NRL stylise the NRL logo patch in pink (Women In League), the ANZAC style logo for ANZAC Day, an Indigenous patch (though as one offs go, some of the Indigenous jerseys look pretty cool) so that all the clubs have their HOME jersey and perhaps an AWAY jersey, but they wear the patches on it.

Otherwise, ensure EVERY club on these special weekends has a proper kit and wears it on that weekend and not some willy nilly use.

And other kit changes should be minimised IMO.

I can only hope that the NRL has a list of colour combos for prospective new teams and doesn't bring in anyone that clashes at all. Furthermore, I'd really, really love to see the white away jerseys people wear scotched.
