Let us not exhaust all our lols on Liverpool. Spare a few for Tottenham. All of that supposedly shrewd business by Levy has turned them into a reeking pile of shite.
4 losses from 5 home games. They don't even look like they have a style of play, nothing like the pressing game he implemented at Southampton with worse players.

I'll spare a few lols for their neighbors too. Twice in a week they've lost a lead. They're now 12 points from the top of the league.

What in the absolute f***ing f***ery are Lovren and Skrtel doing basically near the 18 yard line!? When the ball just kept on falling in front of the Chelsea players, I was wondering why on earth there were no defenders around them fighting for the ball!? We simply don't have great defence coaches, and as a result our players ball watch and don't concentrate. But they should know better anyway.

Adding to the madness was Gerrard, rooted on the goalline (and therefore putting everyone clearly on-side), appealing to the linesman that Cahill was offside! Glen Johnson was the only player who can hold their head up high as he tried to defend the threat of 4 players on his own.

The weird part is, Spurs/Liverpool are a couple of results away from getting back in contention for the top 4.

Every time the we lose, other results go our way. I honestly feel like we need to lose a game and every team above us win to really stick a rocket up us.

One of my blue brothers just pointed out that only two PL teams are closer to Chelsea than they are to the drop zone...

Absolutely f**king horrid.

To be fair the ball didn't get there direct from the corner.

It was an outswinger which both lovren and skrtel chased out but neither won the ball.

The Chelsea player headed it into the position the pic shows.

Now you could lay the blame at the centre backs, but they may be under orders to win the first ball.
Or you say the row of Liverpool defenders who stood there watching the whole thing happening should have woke up a bit.

Or is it the coaching? Were the players given a job to do, or just an area to mark? Are they allowed to sort it themselves or do the coaches insist on a certain thing.

It wasn't good clearly, but you cannot just take one photo in a game and use it to lay blame.

If you were going to do that, it would be the Liverpool player marking cahil as he has switched after the initial cross and let him wander into a lot of space.

Diego Costa going back for the header, draws both centre backs with him... Four Liverpool players caught ball watching, while our four tallest players wander in unmarked... Played onside by Gerrard on the goal line.

Shambolic. I would've hit the roof had we conceded like that.

Surely at least 3 of the 4 Liverpool players who left their men and chased Costa to the header are to blame for that goal.

You'd think BR would be furious as well but it happens way too often with us. We don't get coached the defensive side of the game I'm sure, it's the only way you could explain that sort of shit happening on a weekly basis.

Our defence is abhorrent, but I wouldn't say its that much worse than Arsenal/UTD/Spurs or even Cities whose is pretty questionable at times...

I'm farrrrr more concerned with our attack at the moment, we are really struggling to create chances let alone score goals- Sturridge will obviously be a massive bonus but we are so far off where we were last year it's not funny

Dude the reason everyone like me is furious about our defence is because of the amount of money that Rodgers has invested (or wasted) into it. For us to be successful this year we really had to cut down on the amount of goals we conceded to make up for losing Suarez' goals and assists. The attack is shambolic at the moment but the defence is a huge on-going problem.

All I want to do is make top 4, and we're lucky that all of our competitors are keeping us in it.

Saying your defence is worse than ours has been is a big call. The only reason it didn't bite us on the weekend is because Fraizer Campbell fired over the bar (though we may have had an excuse this week, with no less than 5 centre backs out).

Interesting take on Liverpool's defensive woes. You may well dismiss the theory due to it's source, but he makes a few good points

Steven Gerrard might not have slipped this time around, but he didn't exactly have a great time of things on Saturday. Not only did he lose to Chelsea at home, but he put in an awful performance on top of that, a veritable cavalcade of enthusiastic incompetence that the Blues exploited at every opportunity. Observe:

This, of course, is just a slightly worse version than every other game Gerrard's had as a DM. He doesn't have the positional discipline to avoid chasing out after the ball, nor does he have the athleticism to recover once sucked out of position. It's all very amusing.

I'm not just posting the video to laugh at Gerrard, however. Within this performance is embedded a real warning to managers and analysts: understand the sources of your problems before moving to address them. Liverpool's defence was a mess last season, and so they spent vast amounts of money 'upgrading' it this summer. And, as if like magic, their new defenders are just as bad as the old, because they're being hopelessly exposed by the midfield.

While it's quite nice that Liverpool didn't bother looking too closely at what would actually fix their defensive concerns, Gerrard's woes being transmitted to the rest of the team are a stark reminder of the problems of treating players in isolation. The defensive unit in particular needs to be coherent, and failure to build an effective screen produces catastrophic results in the defensive line.

Unfortunately the video has been removed, but it shows Gerrard being stood up at least half a dozen times, allowing Chelsea to create chances at will

We had a similar problem at the start of last season - we had a pretty good backline, but our DMs were putting too much pressure on them. Then we bought Matic and straight away were able to shut down Citeh at the Etihad...

Matic is such a beast player, I wish we had him. Mourinho said he's the best player so far, and I completely agree. Forget Costa, without Matic you're not run-away leaders.

Everyone is doing their bit, and playing for each other

Matic, Fabregas and Dave are probably the standouts, but not by much over the likes of Hazard, Costa and Costa Jr
