looks terrible.. the idea behind it isnt so bad, and in that case they could use it as a training jersey, or even make their players polo's look like that

so knights will wear that jersey twice in the 2014 season apparently...

not sure how you can change your NRL approved colour from red to orange, spose all those stupid superman jerseys

Huh? Teams do it for women in league, cancer charities, ANZAC day, etc all the time

Its not like this is their regular home jersey or anything

Mining is part of the identity and ethos of the Hunter, which Newcastle represents. It's a f**king brilliant idea and I'm yet to see one Knights fan express any annoyance or disappointment about it tbh.

Valid point.

I just believe that fans should wear the colours of their football club, not football clubs wearing the colours their fans wear to work.

I could mildly stomach it if it was done as recognition to their mining background. But it was done as part of a sponsorship deal.

It is ABSOLUTELY no different to the parra m&m's jersey, the bulldogs avatar and Star Wars jersey, the tigers 007 jersey and the storm and rabbits Superman jerseys. It's a sell out. Sure, those clubs could say they changed their jerseys to resonate with their fans who have a rich history of going to the movies and eating m&m's - but that's not why they did it and it's not why Newcastle did it.

Would an NFL, NBA or EPL club do this? Hell no. And we should be upholding the values of the world's best sporting leagues.

I don't like movie jerseys. I don't like camo jerseys. And I don't like hi-vis mining shirt jerseys

That shit is easy to say from the sidelines bro, but the reality is our clubs need to look to these sorts of ventures to secure capital for our great game. We dont have the luxury of a 300+million fan base to draw from like the above competitions

Id take jersey sponsorships like this every day of the week over clubs going under financially

Right, this shit is getting out of hand.

I have mixed feelings...

As a rule i hate changes to the jerseys, particularly changes to both the design AND colour so it becomes completely unrecognisable.

Having said that though, i do actually kind of like this. Its a nice design and nice colours (would have been good if they had kept a small reference to the main jersey; maybe red and blue side panels or something).

I could definitely see this as a clubs main jersey; as WA team or if Newcastle had chosen the name Steelers/Diggers/ect., I can just see fans loving this.

My one complaint is that this should have been an Auckland 9s jersey, not a regular season strip.

Edit: Actually, i wouldnt mind seeing this as our alternate (similar to the Pink Panthers new away jersey). It would be a massive cultural move for the club that i reckon fans would embrace...

Just to keep some continuity between jerseys, do the main jerseys numbers and collar in that orange and do this strips numbers in red.

Seriously people, the NRL do event jerseys these days. Get over it.

Event or special jerseys don't ruin a clubs image or history.

For everyone of you that don't like it there are those that buy and collect these jerseys or simply want a different jersey. Why should they miss out?

If you don't like a design or color that is fair enough. But there are those who like the designs and variety available these days.

As for the Knights jersey, I actually think it is a cool jersey. For a team I am not a fan of I think this is a great release.

It was a while back (maybe 2000), the Broncos turned up to Penny Park in an Aqua coloured strip. Socks, shorts, the full kit. Something to do with a sponsor's corporate colour (Ergon?)
Anyway, they looked like a bunch of bridesmaids.

The Roosters will be releasing a limited edition Sonny Bill bus driver uniform jersey soon.

It is different to the Eels M&M, Dogs Avatar & Stars Wars, Tigers 007 and Souths/Storm Superman though.

Yeah, there's the sponsorship element involved, but it's also a form of tribute. You couldn't readily identify the above items as representative of the teams they sold out to... you can with Mining.

As 100% green said, we need to get over and accept the fact event jerseys like this exist.

And we're not the only code that does it either.

That jersey debuted at the 7s in 1995 and iirc it had something to do with John Ribot turning 40.

A similar colour scheme was used against Manly at Brookie in 1998 and made a few apperance In 2002.... notably against Melbourne at OP and the Warriors at mt. SmarT.

I would say the first one probably had more to do with the popularity of the Charlotte Hornets then anything.

The later one may have been ergon energy inspired colours but at that point they also had the 7s jersey in the history so the colours had been done before.
