i don't have the facts and figures with me as they are on my work pc, but only one person voted Leo at #1, however from memory he received 8 to 10 votes where the lowest vote was 4th, possibly 5th.

All in all he shit it in by a fair margin. We'll do it again next year, let it run longer and hopefully get more votes in. Right now I'm getting a headache just trying to come up with 15 villains.

Thoroughly justified IMO. The guy is criminally under-appreciated by the Academy, and hasn't put in a bad performance in as long as I can remember. He cops a lot of flak purely because he was in Titanic, but he's been churning out Oscar worthy performances since Gilbert Grape.

Thanks for the great job Noyd!

I was thinking about making a comparison of LU's Favourite Actors versus that of IMDB (same thing as I did with LU's Favourite Movies).

Sorry folks, it can't be done. IMDB has a Starmeter rating system for actors which go from calendar year to calendar year and is impossible to work out.

Same with AFI's Top 100 Actors which base their ratings on actors who made their film debut in 1950 and before.

Don't worry!! I have another trivial comparison to work on. It will take a couple of hours and be ready later today or early tomorrow.

Stay tuned.....

Not a bad list considering.
My top two would be Bogart and Brando though, so what do I know.

Below is a list of LU's Favourite Actors from 50 down to 1 and the movies they have starred in compared to LU's Favourite Movies from a few months ago.

I am "happy" to report that there is little correlation between these two lists. Out of the 50 actors, only 24 had one or more movies in the Top 40 list. The favourite actor, Leonardo Di Caprio did not have a movie in that list but still managed first place.

The actors that fared best were Tom Hanks, Ian McKellen and Harrison Ford with three Top 40 movies each while Al Pacino, Brad Pitt and Mel Gibson had two apiece.

The most represented movie in the actor's list was The Dark Knight with four actors. It was followed by The Godfather 2, Fight Club, Inglorious Basterds, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Pulp Fiction with two each.

50. Christian Bale – The Dark Knight (5th)
=49. Gene Hackman – No movies in Top 40
=49. Peter Dinklage – No movies in Top 40
=47. Will Smith – No movies in Top 40

Just a theory, but it seems that voters chose their favourite actors due to characters they played, rather than the actual movies they were in (if that makes any sense!)

My favourite actor was Jack Nicholson whose characters McMurphy (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest) and Jack Torrance (The Shining) gave him the nod. Second favourite was Anthony Hopkins whose characters included Hannibal Lecter (Silence of the Lambs, etc.) and Ted Crawford (Fracture - a sadly underrated movie). Those characters are stuck in my mind like an ice pick.

I'm quite sure that Mel Gibson, who starred in my all time favourite movie, Mad Max 2, wasn't in my top actors list. From my point of view, the action and stunt work completely overshadowed any acting performance in that movie.

I actually tried to choose my favourites on acting chops, so guys I like such as Vin Diesel didn't make it simply because they're not particularly well versed in the craft.

Makes me wonder how monosylabillic morons such as Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwartzenegger got anywhere near the Top 50 Actors.

Again....the character, rather than acting ability and skill determines one's favourite.

Well if monosyllabic morons are the characters they are portraying then they've done a good job.

Nice effort with the IMDB comparison. Pretty damning for the IMDB list when you consider some of the greats whose work didn't rate a top 40 and the greats whose best work by movie is batman.
