Let's face it, Origin 1 is not selling well because they jacked up the prices in Sydney to "subsidize" the prices for Origin 2 in Melbourne Same with Origin 3 for that matter.

I mean the prices for Origin 1 tickets -

Diamond - $280.36
Platinum - $224.29
Gold - $168.22
Silver - $117.24
Bronze - $71.36.

For Origin 2 at the MCG -

Diamond - (Unable to find)
Platinum - $173.32
Gold - $132.54
Silver - $86.66
Bronze - $50.98.

Even Origin 3 at Suncorp prices are overly high in my opinion -

Gold - $224.29
Silver - $193.70
White - $147.83
Bronze - (unable to find).

The above are full price for adults taken from Ticketek.

People in NSW will not pay that kind of money normally at all.

Expect they jacked up the prices last year at Suncorp last year, don't know about ANZ, so I don't believe that for a minute that is anything to do with Melbourne.

It is true that if the ARLC tried to charge $280 for a ticket to the MCG, the crowd would be around 13,000 tops. But they can't even sell tickets for that price in Sydney or Brisbane, so it suggests that its a dumb policy.

As a supporter of a club that only had approx 8k turn up during our recent win, I will say that the NRL fanbase generally looks for reasons not to attend. But the biggest thing is that the game itself is such a good tv product.

The raiders have a lot to do to reconnect with the people of Canberra IMO. Having every young talent turnout to be a dickhead couldn't have helped. Also the club was flat out hostile towards the fanbase to the point I let my membership lapse. I reupped this year because the club has managed to look like they give a shit lately.

It will flow on with the local community. Canberra will always be on the smaller side for crowds because its a tiny city with a big chunk of the population from other areas but the club can certainly look at pushing the 20k when big teams come to town if they keep improving on and most importantly off the field. Dragons games for example should be heavily promoted with deals and the like.

Possibly a bit more, but I think you're on the money,
so to speak.

Suity

I earn a reasonable amount but even I would find it hard to justify more than $120, maybe $150 but jeez it better be good at the latter price. At that price you would stay at home. Expenses are higher nowadays and I'm always watching where my money goes. At $120 that is $400 for a family and that is getting up there. Some would say that is okay, but more families would say "no lets watch it on TV"

Absolute max $120 Category A, going down to $60-70 for the cheap tickets.

Which is the around the price of a major concert, like an AC/DC or Stones etc (not including the VIP tickets of course)

To me that's a reasonable price.

They will just drop the price a week before like they did in brissy last year. F$&@ing annoyed me because I bought my tix early for game 3 but decided at the last minite to go to game 1 and got better seats for half the price.

Yeah I think heaps of people are waiting for the drop.

Bars and restaurants that organise origin packages are frothing at their draws over these hikes.

It's all about supply and demand. The only thing that will ever force prices down in the long term is if the public reduces demand. Stop buying them at the crazy prices and they will get sensible.

What annoys me is the NRL doubled its income in the current tv deal. They are absolutely swimming in cash compared to before. And yet they still feel the need to get every last cent out of fans for Origin tickets. It means less working class fans. It is infuriating when even a non profit like the NRL is still willing to hurt fans to make even more money.

I hope less then 60K turn up to ANZ. I don't think that they will get as many as they think given that NSW won last year. The novelty has now worn off especially at those prices.

On another note Rabbitohs v Dragons PAX 10500 as of Saturday night.

No surprise the lack of passion compared to QLD. 1 Origin win and there over it. For being the pinnacle of rugby league, the passion for it's one sided and that's QLD.

Origin hurts NRL more than helps it as we see soon enough in the coming weeks. Crowds are going to take a major hit and potential teams effected with injuries throughout Origin.

Other professional comps have breaks during rep matches, Origin should have 3 weeks of break for three games throughout the season.
