There's the problem. Pre season exhibition game a hundred bucks? NRL are so out of touch it isn't funny.

they charged more like 300 or something for a preseason exhibition game last week and it pulled just under 90 thousand people in another country.

but yea, stuff allstars and all this preseason crap.

NRL 9s and 1 trial per club including charity shield, WCC etc.

I reckon this match is being set up to fail. I live on the GC and have seen zero promotion for this match. The other thing that is being overlooked is that the game is on Friday night rather than Saturday night. My best mate is koori but lives in Coffs , he hasn't missed any of the all star games but won't be attending as he can't afford to take the day off work. I reckon that would be a common scenario.

I'm with you Paulmac.

But I think the Broncs and Cowboys will have good seasons and make the 8.

Scrap WCC, allstars, trials, nines BS and start the season earlier- playing everyone twice
Fairer...better...more interest earlier...too easy

I'm so glad you're not in charge of running the game. The all stars can go, but the other stuff are important parts of the rugby league season.

not really, except for the world club challenge, but they could have that 2 weeks after the nrl grandfinal

Anyone calling for the scrapping of the All Stars has absolutely no idea. It might seem like a drag to some of the clubs or supporters but the Indigenous players absolutely love it and scrapping it will only do the complete opposite of what the game was introduced for.

There's nothing wrong with the concept...they just need to move it around to different areas. Townsville or Newcastle would be a good start.

Getting 90000 people to watch rugby league in two days in Auckland is great promotion for rugby league, it is important we continue to promote 9's rugby league. Trials are also important as many games are played in rural areas who rarely get the chance to watch nrl players live.

Trials are also important for players and coaching staff to get rid of the cobwebs, get match fitness, put pre season tactics into play and to see where the team is at and what to work on come round 1.

I dont see anything wrong with the all-stars game. The indigenous are a little light on in the forwards with the injuries is about all.
The real problem is the Gold Coast, when is the NRL going to scrap this nonsense, move the Titans to Logan, bring in Perth and Brisbane, cities of 2 million. You have rugby league heartland at Logan trying tio fend off AFL pokie sporting clubs at Logan. This is madness and needs to be addressed, by the state government and the NRL.
Leave the coast as feeder clubs.

The Gold Coast is pivotal from a public relations point of view!

You have Australia's holiday play land without a rugby league club? Letting the myth of AFL continue to pervade the minds of tourists and our young people?

Image is very important and without a presence in this area the image of rugby league being seen as less visible therefore less popular compounds and reinforces the AFL myth with its aim for legitimacy and general acceptance.

Leaving rugby league behind in the Gold Coast would be a pretty poor PR effort on the powers that be in the NRL.

We still need some type of trial system as the teams do benefit from it but the preseason could do with an overhaul. Start with not having the WCC in the pre-season and having it directly after the respective Grand finals in the same country/hemisphere as whoever is hosting that years WC/4N.

Scrap the All stars, it has little meaning and the majority of people just don’t care about it. An indigenous round/s will serve as an appropriate replacement.

9’s is a good idea plus 2 trials for each team. It’s not that hard.

Seemed Ok for a while but you forgo October/November internationals which are a big draw card for fans and aspiring young players!

I would stick with one WCC game. I think the NRL is pricing the All stars game out of the market so therefore I think this fixture will go.

Nines and Charity shield to move up a week in the calendar if the All stars goes.

fair enough. they may need to reduce the amount of pre-season games for each club though, or reduce the season proper

The All Stars has never drew a crowd less than 20k+ historically.

I can't see why that would be worth scrapping.

I think you will find it on Friday night as the World Cup cricket is on Nine on Saturday.

The major issue for Allstars game is the ticket prices! They are ridiculously high!

The All-Stars would work permanently if:

* Venue was rotated between Townsville, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Wollongong, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth.

* Match was played on a Saturday night.

* Decent pricing.

Well they have the game in a regional area on a worknight they can't blame the interest not being there
