Even SOO wouldn't pull a crowd on the GC. Not sure what the answer is really either

Weren't the first two games 25K+??

That's awesome for a pre-season exhibition and more than 85% of all NRL games crowds

The reasons for the poor ticket sales are pretty obvious. Right off the bat you have the insane ticket prices. The NRL have made a mistake. They assumed that with a smaller stadium they could ramp up the ticket price to take advantage of a supply constraint. This was greedy and stupid.

There's also the mistake of taking the game away from the coast in the first place. It started on the Gold Coast, had crowds of 26k, 25k, and 26k, and then the NRL took it away from them (admittedly they got a massive crowd at Brisbane the following year), so it's easy to see how locals might have felt slighted.

What I can't understand is how 'journalists' this week have completely ignored these two painfully obvious points, in favour of pushing the narrative that League is 'on the nose' on the Gold Coast. It's been one article after another this week pushing this agenda, culminating today with an article suggesting the Titans move to Logan. Does my head in.

I think the insane ticket prices are more to do with the Qld Government than the NRL - they charge the Titans a motza in stadium rent, why would this match be different. In fact it would probably be higher than what they charge the Titans on a per game basis and their home ticket prices cost nearly $70 for cat 1.

You only need to look into this report on the Cricket World Cup and why Brisbane got a shit allocation of matches http://www.news.com.au/sport/cricke...abba-blockbuster/story-fnqpo3wn-1227215490662 to see that they simply don't want to help bring any major events to Qld

Suggesting Gold Coast isn't the problem is ludicrous. The region has shown repeatedly it struggles to maintain an NRL presence, and was a complete failure when it tried to be part of the A-League. AFL only survives due to a bottomless money pit at Metricon...

Yeah but that was early in GC 's time. Since then it's been a poorly run club they have the most expensive tickets. I dare say local's see RL coming and just associate it with high ticket prices.... They would be correct

This. Gold coast reminds me of Miami, Places known for beaches and partying, highly transient population, all sports seem to struggle to draw crowds. Miami had the repeat NBA champions and were struggling to fill the arena.

Wow, 3 years is a long time in League terms obviously.

Except that the Heat have the 6th highest crowd average in the NBA and second highest over the 2 championship years.
And the Dolphins get 65-70k averages.

Wouldn't say that, they are giving away a lot of tickets and still will barely scrape 20k, it should have been sold out weeks ago.

If it wasn't a mickie mouse game that is hardly relevant. The only relevance is whether my club players don't get injured. Couldn't care less about the result.

yea i bet state of origin would struggle to fill out a 30k stadium.

they could charge minimum prices of over $200 if they played an origin game at cbus. i think it was around $80 for the anz game
