I don't mind the Titans per se, I mean it has little resonance with the Gold Coast but its not a completely unusable nickname especially the trident motif.

The Cowboys on the other hand is f**king atrocious. We should have been the Crocs, Marlins or Cyclones not so Yankee Doodle Dandy shite.

Whenever someone asks who I support I always say "North Queensland".

Id love to see NQLD drop "Cowboys" as the official name (though maintain it as the logo/mascot) and just go with "North Queensland RLFC".

Id also much rather (instead of the Americanized star logo) if they went with a logo referencing the Australian Army's Slouch hat; the design for those things came directly from the old drover and bushy hats...

Gorgeous piece of Australiana without destroying and entirely restarting the established Cowboy brand...

The Crocs would've been perfect. Long live the animal mascots.

The one great benefit of going with "Cowboys" over Crocs/Marlins/any other sea creature is that NQLD have taken on the imagery of the Australian Drovers/Cattle farmers.

These days, most Aussies live in cities. But we do love that nostalgic image of farming the open plains and the rural life-style.

"Cowboys" is too american, but they were in the right area with the brand representing rural Australia ahead of one from coastal Australia.

Since when is it the NRL's role to acquire sponsors for clubs? Please.

Since basically always. U are very naive if you think that the afl aren't helping their new clubs getting corporate backing.

Do you really think virgin approached the suns and gws.

The afl packaged up the official airline deal with sponsorships of clubs

NRL could easily do the same. With holden vb. Bundaberg. Gio aami etc

But they choose to let them run around blank.

The first two times (granted the Chargers had the rug pulled) and now twice this time?

Why should we keep propping up a region that clearly cannot sustain a club?

Redcliffe were more concerned about them using the Dolphins nickname.

They have plans of playing in the NRL one day.

Oh were they? Coincidence that I happened to suggest that particular club night sue over colours. What a crazy coincidence..

How the f**k can you sue a team for their choice of colour?

Would they sue St. George Illawarra for wearing red and white?
Of course they wouldn't

The same logo or name maybe, but there are teams that have Dolphins as their name, such as Coogee, but they're not getting sued.

In order to sue you have to show breach of copyright, but you can't copyright a colour

They should have called themselves the North Queensland Jackeroos.

Oh really? Mine wasn't. I really do think redcliffe would sue another team for wearing red and white..

lol, I hope you were being sarcastic. I'd have gone with dolphins and let them try. My understanding is you can't sue for a sports name, only the actual logo image. Remember when bradford became Bulls and Chicago Bulls tried to stop them they couldn't stop them being called the Bulls but got compensation as the bradford logo was a direct rip off of theirs.

No they didn't, the ruling was overturned in UK. In Australia they were only able to copyright the exact Pantone code so,you can be one minor shade out in purple and be legal in using it as a chocolate wrapper.
