I thought they brought the pink shirts in for cancer charity awareness or something, and just kept them on for a few seasons??

Started as a one off but must have been present for like 5 or 6 years now. Other than the one off with the good intention, always thought they looked bad.

@RLW_Mole: PINK refs are a thing of the past, peeps. #thankgod
They will wear lime green, red & teal. Not red & blue as some media are reporting

The senior referee in each game this season will have a soccer-style armband to signify he is the man in charge, but the days of NRL match officials wearing pink jerseys have gone as it is believed the uniform made it more difficult for the officials to be taken seriously.
What difference does it make what colour they wear ?

All referees should be taken seriously, they are the man in charge. Although they should go back to the one referee in charge.

Bring back the old 'TNT' uniforms.

It was originally a one off for the World Cup in 2008. I think the idea was started by ex referee Steve Clark.

Cause they thought it was so successful they decided to use in the NRL for the next season.

Fairfax Media was told that some NRL officials believed the authority of a referee could be undermined if he was wearing a pink jersey.
Instead the uniforms worn by referees this season will be blue or red - colours that the National Centre for Australian Studies lecturer Dr Tom Heenan said were more likely to encourage discipline.

1. Is money actually going towards funding research like this shit?
2. Are people actually devoting themselves to study this shit?

Youve obviously never been inside a university...

We fund far more random and seemingly insignificant things than "how to people react to various stimuli". And youd be surprised how some of these findings are employed.

For example, Baker-Miller Pink has such a dramatic effect on the brain (causing an individual to become passive and non-violent) its used in prison cells to calm violent detainees.

4th year uni student actually.
I've seen some ridiculous stuff studied but a consultation on referee uniform colours and the authority status that is perceived of these colours tops it all.

Are you sure they actually employed a consultant???

Admittedly i only skilled the announcement, but it came across more as a brainwave from some online article Greenburg read than paying a psychologist to pick a good colour.
