On the topic of the scheduling for this tournament, we (in Australia, as well as New Zealand) have had to wait 23yrs for this World Cup. Whoever was responsible for the scheduling of the venues etc. did an atrocious job. India vs Pakistan held in Adelaide, being one of the matches of the tournament, sold-out within minutes. This match should've definitely been played at the MCG, which would've got very close to a sell-out and allowed another 30k+ more ppl to attend the match. Massive opportunity wasted there

And I read somewhere in an article that Brisbane got screwed over. I tend to agree. They should've got one of the Quarter-Finals at the expense of either Melbourne or Sydney, who already have a final and semi-final respectively.

And on the topic of tv coverage, I heard somewhere that Ch9 will only be televising the games involving Australia and the final. Typical pisspoor stuff from them. There's some absolute crackerjack games (not involving Australia) during the preliminary rounds that they're going to miss out on. Funnily, since good old Kerry died, Ch9 have only televised matches involving Australia in the World Cup (2007 and 2011), and even then, the coverage of it has been poor (e.g. only starting the broadcast from the last few overs of Australia's Q/F match vs India just so they could show The Footy Show at 9:30pm).
At least Ch9 haven't been allowed to dictate the schedule like they have so far this season (e.g. starting games in Perth at 2:30pm AEDT, and scheduling a 1hr tea break just so they could start the 2nd innings of the 2nd ODI between Australia and South Africa straight after the news at 6:30pm). The World Cup games in Perth will be at 2:30pm WST (5:30pm AEDT).

Probably because India are playing two pool games over here in Perth and the later start will be a better viewing time for people in India. I'm not complaining about it though.

Very surprised the game vs Afghanistan for the same start time. Perhaps the schedulers didn't see that one going the distance anyway.

If it was a game vs England or South Africa etc I reckon it would have started at 2:30 EST.

I think it may be AUS v NZ final. Both have strong squads, and aren't overly reliant on a couple of players and will be tough to beat at home. South Africa will be thereabouts but they'll find a way to choke.

Australia at home have to be favourites, and that's not guided by patriotism but history, form and talent available. India and Sri Lanka have traditionally struggled in Australian conditions, England are woeful at the one day game, New Zealand's form of late is pretty lacklustre.

South Africa are probably the best credentialed team, better than Australia but despite their protests their previous chokes in World Cups plays on their minds.

Pakistan are the dark horses. They are always capable of beating anyone and their playing unit looks pretty tight at the moment.

You can forget the rest.

Sri Lanka are beasts in Australian conditions.

I wouldn't be surprised if India had a say. They are actually playing their two warm up games in Adelaide, and having their first pool game there is very convenient against their arch rivals. Pakistan by the way play a warm up game in Sydney (v Eng) and one in Bankstown (v Bangladesh)

Also Australia play England at the MCG in the opener, and this Ind v Pak game in Adelaide is on the same weekend (following night). So they obviously want massive games to open the cup.

In the overall scheme of things, That Adelaide game alone will get a viewing audience of over a billion people and will financially be a massive nest egg. It may not be such a global tv ratings winner if they played later in the tournament if one or both of the sides had been performing poorly , MCG or not

Many are pissed Australia are not playing a pool game in Adelaide, considering it a new updated ground (we actually head over to play NZ in Auckland in a pool game)

The Adelaide oval has been ruined f**k the AFL shithole

THIS

in addition, I hope that the SCG and Gabba managements withstand the temptation to introduce drop in pitches for the AFL.

I'm not so sure about an Australia v New Zealand final, but Australia's group match against the Kiwis at Eden Park and vs Sri Lanka at SCG are the two danger games for the Aussies. Given most likely India, Pakistan and South Africa will be the top 3 in Group B (in no particular order), if we don't top our group, we will have a tough Quarter-Final match against one of those three sides.

Very surprised the game vs Afghanistan for the same start time. Perhaps the schedulers didn't see that one going the distance anyway.

Did you ever think about Ch9's 6pm news? Unless this game is going to be on GEM, I'm surprised Ch9 didn't think about this if they planned on showing it on the main channel, since we know how much their 6pm news bulletin means to them.

Btw, I do hope the matches are also broadcast on GEM, given that Fox Sports will be broadcasting all matches in HD. How embarrassing will it be of Ch9 show matches exclusively in SD.

Stuff the BCCI.

In addition, I won't be looking forward to hearing Shastri and Gavaskar in commentary during the tournament since ESPN Star Sports have the exclusive broadcasting rights to the tournament, and both of those commentators are affiliated with the network. It won't be like it was in 1992, with games in Australia receiving Ch9 commentary and games in New Zealand had TVONE NZ commentators.

Also Australia play England at the MCG in the opener, and this Ind v Pak game in Adelaide is on the same weekend (following night). So they obviously want massive games to open the cup.

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka is the opening match, considering it starts at 9am AEDT (and the Australia v England game starts at 2:30pm AEDT)

And again, on the topic of venue scheduling, a disgrace that opening match is at the small Hagley Oval. All games NZ played over there against test nations should've been played at the larger venues over there.

In the overall scheme of things, That Adelaide game alone will get a viewing audience of over a billion people and will financially be a massive nest egg. It may not be such a global tv ratings winner if they played later in the tournament if one or both of the sides had been performing poorly , MCG or not

I see what you're saying (regarding if the match was held later in the tournament), however, the game would've still got 80k+ if held at the MCG, even if it is the day after the Australia v England match. Already, ticket sales for South Africa vs India at the MCG are looking at that crowd figure, given several sections have already been sold out. India vs Pakistan is a far bigger match-up than that, and their fans (which there is a large number of in Melbourne) would've turned out in big numbers.

Many are pissed Australia are not playing a pool game in Adelaide, considering it a new updated ground (we actually head over to play NZ in Auckland in a pool game)

Which is why if we make the Quarter-Finals (which 99.9% we will), we have been allocated to play that match at Adelaide (rather than SCG or MCG, which is where the other two Quarter-Finals in Australia will be held)

Stuffing the BCCI, we all would like to do that more often than not, but unfortunately money talks.

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka is the opening match, considering it starts at 9am AEDT (and the Australia v England game starts at 2:30pm AEDT)

Correct. Yes it is. With due respect to NZ and SL, The two Australian games in Australia on the same weekend are the money games (in terms of the global viewing interest and market).

And again, on the topic of venue scheduling, a disgrace that opening match is at the small Hagley Oval. All games NZ played over there against test nations should've been played at the larger venues over there.

Cant argue with that, that's a weird one. You'd play Scotland there and it still gets sold out.

Cant argue with that either, but the bigger slice of the pie for this game isnt the crowd attendance, its the global tv revenue, which is going to be considerably larger than an extra 20-30k at another ground. It could be played at Dalton Park in Wollongong, the global interest and revenue wont change. HOWEVER not to sure that would do as well if played later in the tournament and one or both sides are doing badly, its a risk . Im sure this crossed the organises minds, and fair call.

Playing back to back games at the MCG on the opening weekend probably would have worked and made sense for sure, but maybe they decided to spread the venues around and no do any back to back games? Personally im not too fussed its on at Adelaide. Maybe Pakistan and India be a good chance to play at the MCG in the quarter finals?

Fair enough, I didn't realise Australia is guaranteed to play there regardless where it finished up after the pool games

The 4-1 series loss to Australia recently was a deadset gee up,the South African's were out here for a holiday,AB De Villiers even said beforehand that losses in Australia would do them good in the future, basically they came out here to get rid of the fav tag for the World Cup and it worked perfectly,South Africa were having a laugh in that series playing backyard Cricket.

Put Duminy back in the middle order and South Africa got dis.

I'll eat my own face if Australia win the World Cup,they are absolutely no chance, the Bailey's Watto's,Marsh's Maxwell's are not gonna perform under pressure when Warner and Finch don't get us off to flyers and also Starc and NCN will cost us games by going 0-60.

These donkeys couldn't even handle the fav tags in the shit and giggle 20/20 World Cup in Bangers,no way they will handle the expectation and pressure in the own Country for the 50 over version.

Australia = no chance.

lol

South Africa (other than injured Duminy) were playing their full strength side for the first 3-4 ODI games

Australia were resting, rotating players throughout the series

Don't ever under estimate the South African choke no matter what they say in the media

The Saffa's play their cricket with a permanent noose around their necks which only gets tighter the further they go in world cups.

Was that rant serious?

I don't rate the Aussies as favourites but they're certainly a chance. Apart from South Africa how many of the sides out there are talented and consistent? New Zealand are a decent wildcard and you never know with Pakistan, India isn't bad, but the rest of them pretty much blow.

I might have written them off two years ago but we have Johnson finding his mojo, the likes of Smith, Finch, Warner developing into good ODI players, Clarke might be fit and Bailey is nowhere near as bad as he's made out to be.

They'll field a decent team and should make the semis at least

Most open World Cup I can recall.

I think NZ are building really well. But of the legit contenders I'd only rule England and the Windies out.

RSA slight favourites the rest of us pretty even imo

Great gesture, considering that Christchurch has been deprived of international cricket since the Earthquake.
