The Neesh has done fairly well at test level, but in ODI he just hasn't delivered with the bat. I know Anderson started off bright and has fizzled, but Neesham has fizzled and continued to fizzle.

Elliot has hit form in the domestic comp at the perfect time I think, hopefully that translates.

Henry is unlucky but it's understandable. 19 wickets at 15 per wicket looks very impressive. If there were three months and a couple more ODI series before the side's were named he may have had time to force his way in.

If they wanted a batsman, there are better than Elliott, he's 35 and proven to be mediocre or worse at international level - quality bowlers are too much for him

I think Elliot's inclusion probably signals a plan they have....

From what I remember if him he's a handy bloke in a tournament...

Kinda reminds me of when they brought Harry back in to the 96 world cup squad... Harry was a lot younger than Elliot is but I think he offers the same sort of versatility and also has some runs on the board in tournament cricket.

He's played several very handy innings over the years against good attacks too.
Nothing fantastic but while Neesham didn't do much wrong there isn't a whole lot of difference in what they bring to the table.

What I am pleased about is McCullum opening - I've always been adamant that in the shorter forms he should be at the top of the order - and now, as captain, and in the form he's in, it's a real opportunity for him to make a huge impression at the WC

Also, even if they deemed Elliott necessary (which remains weird to me, as his batting isn't better than Neesham, who is our test #6), Anderson is f**king lucky to be there ahead of Neesham anyway!

Agree that Anderson lucked out a bit, riding mostly on that ridiculous century and hasn't done much since.

Meanwhile things are as rosy as ever with West Indies cricket, with Dw. Bravo and Pollard being chopped for no apparent reason. What a mess they are.

Like you I am pleased to see Baz opening at the top. However, I am a little concerned that having him opening and replacing Ryder has weakened the middle order power. I am not convinced Elliot or Latham have the ability to score quick runs when required. I would have selected Colin Munro to bat at 5/6. He has a good domestic average 39 and strike rate 110. He has the ability to hit the ball over the rope.

If Maxwell gets selected we have to hope he does a Andrew Symonds and finally reaches his potential in the World Cup,anyone will remember back to Symonds being an absolute hopeless merkin for a long long time before Ricky Ponting begged the selectors to give him another chance in the World Cup and he finally came good, from that point on he went on to have a good career,he was quite the hopeless plodder when he first started playing for Australia.

Maxwell needs to find his inner Symonds

Apparently, Pollard and Bravo are set to be omitted from the WI world cup squad

Gayle hit 77 off 31 against South Africa in the first T20 overnight. Could be hitting some form at the right time

It's a shame that maxwell and finch have been so affected by the phil Hughes tragedy. They have to be selected but both will have zero impact in their current form.

every team has the odd WTF selection I suspect - for us it's the #5 position, for you it's spinner - if spin is at all relevant you are in a spot of bother...

And yeah, any team without Ryan Harris is not your strongest - that's kind of weird for me, I know he's a bit fragile, but he is your best bowler by some distance

it's a world cup, little bit different to a meaningless tri-series with your friends from India and England

I think bowling might be very important, the white balls swing and in NZ wickets will help bowlers a little...
