Cummins can bat at 8. Bird cant. And I suspect that might be important here.

And I'd say that's why they seem to have gone with Cummins. But I don't see it as a massive issue...SOK is a better than handy number 8 and tbh if we rely too much on the tail for runs again we won't win anyway.

Possibly

but Cummins is more of a risk if we only go with 4 bowlers (and 6 batsman)

if they pick Stonis at 6, then they will risk playing Cummins id imagine?

Whoever they pick, i dont care, just want us to beat india. Kinda like Parra playing Manly really

Oh, Cummins is playing, barring any last minute injury (unless all of the interviews with players and coaches are an elaborate smokescreen). I think the idea is that the quicks won't bowl too many overs in a spell (or hopefully in an innings). So, even if it is Maxwell rather than Stoinis, they'll give Pat 4 over spells and rotate the quicks, and then have spin back to back for some intervals.

I'd rather Agar. None of the "all rounders" are a number six batsman's arsehole, but Maxwell's bowling is woeful IMO.

The pitch may help him as it will SOK but he doesn't even bowl in ODIs anymore....

Obviously Agar is a technically gifted batsman with a good eye. But he still averages 26 in 44 first class games (I'm not suggesting that Cummins 1st class average of 30 is meaningful).

I'd be happy to see Agar get another go though. To me, he just sits in the middle between the guys who give the ball a good rip and make it dip, and those who bowl accurate darts with a bit of variation. But he's only 23.

If I was picking the side myself, Khawaja would be in...shuffle Marsh to 5 and Handscombe to 6...BUT

They are obviously deadset on picking an all rounder, for whatever reason. Stoinis averages 17 with the bat this season, Maxwell 28 and Agar 20. Realistically, none of them are odds on to score runs at 6 in the test team. So if they are deasdset on picking an all rounder and wasting the number 6 spot....Stoinis averages 48 with the ball this season, Maxwell 86 (!!!!) and Agar 27. May as well pick the bloke who is far more likely to take wickets

It's certainly a crap shoot. I think Stoinis, over his career, is the more reliable bat (he averages 35), and the Shield averages can be a little out of whack with current form thanks to our magnificent leaders. Little would surprise me tomorrow.

I really dont know why we are looking for all rounders when we have had no problems bowling them out with 4 bowlers. We need a batsman at 6 for mine but looks like we will end up with the No Show.

This pitch already looks like its been played on and even has foot marks on it already to suit Ashwin so I dont think there will be that much difference between batting first or second, its that bad.

My guess is that the Indians want to take the toss out of the equation.

I am surprised nobody is having a go at Warner. He is the ultimate flat track bully.

When he doesn't get a road, he generally fails.

Selfish, irresponsible and unfortunately he is our vice captain.

Poor Steve smith.

While i agree with your premise, Khawaja just can not play spin.

In all honesty, he should not have even been picked for this tour, but that was never going to happen. Hopefully he is learning things on this tour.

I would have picked Kurtis Patterson over Kwawaja.
