Looks we are going to do it tough. Doesn't help when our our supposed strike opener only manages 1 50 all series and averages 24

Yeh, I don't think we need to look for scapegoats. We're playing India in India and have taken it to the wire. Some players will always be out of form. Not worth totally giving up on this game quite yet.

Yes we have done a lot better that expected but if Smith got a little more help with the bat we could have won the series by now

To many passengers to beat a class team like India at home, Smith while playing a poor shot to get out couldn't have done anymore. The selectors are the most culpable imo, the insistence of someone named Marsh be in the side and the fact we continually pick a wicket keeper who isn't up to test standard continues to boggle and amaze. Plus the all rounder obsession, they want to decrease the bowlers workload to only pick a bloke unable to bowl 100% in Marsh or someone the captain doesn't rate Maxwell.

Who would you pick though at 6? Uzzy? The 'allrounder' role is important when you're going to play 2 frontline spinners. It's not quite so essential if it's 3 seamers and a spinner. We just don't really have one that is both good enough to bat at 6, and can give you 15 overs in an innings.

I think the reality is that, Smith aside, the Indians are better batsmen in Indian conditions than our blokes are. Not overly surprising.

The all rounders haven't bowled 20 overs between them all series. Pick a batsman and stuff the all rounder. Khawaja at four and Smarsh at six would have been a better option.

But Maxwell did score a cracking hundred so fair play to him and the selectors on that. But tbh we haven't used the all rounder so what was the point picking one

I would think that Maxwell has the spot for a bit and when they come back to Australia hopefully they slot Oozie back in for Marsh, but you just never know with our selectors, and you never know when the Toyman's brain fades will get himself dropped.

I think we need to give up this obsession with trying to find an all rounder, we simply dont have a world class all rounder so we should at least play a specialist batsman, we were pretty strong with Marto at 6

Yeah exactly. No issue with a horses for courses approach, maybe Maxy gets the six spot on a quick wicket for the Ashes and we play four quicks. But I much rather the six batsmen personally

There's nothing wrong with trying to find an allrounder. It's the act of picking them in the test team in the absence of evidence that they are sufficiently capable with at least one of the required skills that is dubious.
