Fair enough.I think you're missing the point.
The short term losses incurred by the club in membership $$$ are nothing compared to the potentially catastrophic effects of Doust et al. sticking around.

Problem with doing something like that is that the Jets can.
Too often clubs' stadium deals with any ground (even the smaller ones) often include stuff like pourage and Food+Bev rights which prevent festivals like the above even happening.
It'd be a rad idea (and even happens outside ANZ before major events) but I can't see it unless the beer & catering companies are very, very nice (in my experience, they ain't).
Nailed it. The MCG has a fantastic mix of food stalls inside the ground - it surprises me that somewhere like ANZ hasn't gone down the same path.Agreed and I have experienced the same with the Sharks. However, clubs are going to have to realise that the landscape is changing and the ones that alter their food and bev contracts accordingly when the opportunity arises will win the race for bums on seats. People don't want pies, chips and VB in a plastic cup anymore. Respect your consumer and offer them good food, and a range of quality beverage and they come to you.
Worth pointing out that the Newtown Jets got 3500 to Saturdays fixture. They hosted the "Beer footy and food" festival and invited craft breweries and bespoke food companies to open a tent and present their wares on the hill. They day was an outrageous success. Mates of mine run a small brewery and they sold out of beer. The punters loved it and the Jets won against the fancied Panthers on the back of some partisan support.
Can you imagine if an NRL club did the same thing?
This, not cold concrete stadiums, is what people in inner Sydney want. A great, relaxed day out with good food, craft beer and even wine. Rugby League needs to wake up to the changing demographic in inner Sydney in particular.
That is some great initiative and more clubs need to look at this.Great crowd for the Gold Coast.
For this game they put a special price on kids tickets and offered a pie/burger & drink offer with it. Also for anyone who bought a ticket for the next game against the Warriors got this games ticket for half price.
I predicted 15k for this game, I think I got pretty close.
