Interestingly the Sharks Allianz Prelim is locked in - but Melbourne's at AAMI is not.

I've heard rumours they may be looking at a larger venue. Wonder if that will come to fruition.

1. Their game is better to watch at the ground, as opposed to the NRL where it is tv friendly

Half agree. I think their game is better to watch at the ground as opposed to their games on TV, not better than Rugby League to watch at the ground.

But Rugby League does make a much better TV sport and definitely makes it a tougher choice these days. Along with the usual problems that are never addressed like ridiculous food and drink prices.

Yeah, that's what I meant with 1. I should've been more specific

AFL get big crowds for 2 main reasons

1. Their game is better to watch at the ground, as opposed to the NRL where it is tv friendly

I think the NRL is better at the ground than tv when you are sitting in half decent seats.

Sitting on the ends of most stadiums and corners at ANZ is crap though.

Last year one of the NYC games was played AAMI, regardless of who was playing.

Hopefully around 40,000 for the Sharks prelim, but I'd be surprised if they get anywhere near that.

I can't remember the last time a Sydney team cracked 30k scratch that 25k. How are they going to get 40k. I'll put a 100 dollarydoos on the storm game outselling the Sharks game.

There has been a big change this year around NYC games in Melbourne, from memory only one has been played there - back in Round 5. Storm's other NYC home matches were on the Sunshine Coast. There was no NYC game before Saturday night's Qualifying Final either.

I'm not even sure it's fair to be sending the Roosters and Sharks to Canberra but hey.

Storm vs Cowboys/Broncos GF is very likely I'll wonder if the Sydney public will turn up 2 years in a row to a no Sydney team GF.

Why wouldn't they?
They couldn't turn up for a all Sydney final yesterday why would they turn up for Melbourne and Qld final? Last year a lot of cowboys and Broncos fans went down for the first all Qld final but now the cows have won a premiership there won't be as much hype. Judging from the crowds storm/Bris/Cows get when they play Sydney sides isnt encouraging.

The games problem is self-fulfilling, its a great live experience when there's a big crowd & players definitely feed off it and lift intensity, but you cant get that live experience without the crowd.

After the crowd in Sydney yesterday I've nearly giving up hope of Sydney RL ever getting great crowds again.

I can't believe the game yesterday didn't get 32k+. I seriously don't understand why there wasn't at least 20k dogs fans at the game. Will the Sharks fans travel to SFS? Are there many Sydney Siders who a neutral fans who want to go to a sharks vs Qld game at SFS?
30k is being very optimistic
There's a serious chance that game might not crack 20k

Are you *actually* comparing a Week 1 semi crowd where one team was in awful form, played on the opposite side of town to both sides' home bases... to a Grand Final?

Last year's GF was a packed joint and there's no reason this year's won't be.

Ridiculous doomsday rubbish. Drop the drama.

Pretty easy. Canterbury lost 3 games coming into that game and it was played across town from the home areas of both teams. Apparently Panthers was packed with people who either couldn't or wouldn't travel as well.

I imagine it would've gotten closer to 30k at ANZ but sadly the Panthers chose Allianz, so that's how it spun.

I think you also forget that people turn up to event games. Week 1 finals aren't event games like prelim finals are. Sharks fans will come out of the woodwork and Brisbane and NQ can travel to Sydney in numbers as proven last year for the GF

Bugger off with all of that, you were one of the people saying that sunday's game wouldn't crack 20, well it did. I was there it was still a great atmosphere despite the numbers, Penrith fans were really loud and I was pleasently surprised to see that many Panthers fans there. The dissapointment was with Dogs fans they probably had 11-13 or so thousand there which is prety poor considering they outnumbered roosters fans on a friday night there last year in a 38k crowd.

The Sharks will get at least 30k there are plenty of neutrals who would go along for the ride, mostly to death ride them ha ha.
