Am I missing something or is there a need for prelim finals to be played in 50k stadiums? I get it if it was two Sydney teams playing each other, or even GCvBroncos but beyond that I would have thought 25k stadiums would meet demand without locking out many in places like Canberra and NQ and 35k in Melbourne?

Canberra I really dont get, different city, different state hundreds of kms from Sydney yet they should play there? That is NSWRL logic if I have ever seen it!

Is this just an attempt at a joke or you just really late to the party?

This has been discussed ad nauseum in the last 15 pages

The Storm can't play at Etihad due to TAC Cup and VFL finals being played. We have a ground specifically designed for our game so use it.

And we should of had 2 finals at home by finishing on the top 4. That's not the NRL doing us any favours.
The fact we're not allowed ...Or not good enough .. to host a prelim while the other 3 sides in the top 4 can
Is treating our club & it's fans with utter contempt.
Wanna build a loyal fan base down here ?
Then ditch the home region policy
It sucks
So a hypothetical that didn't happen is stopping your fans from building a loyal fan base down there?

That's a reach.

Melbourne aside, prelims are traditionally attended by crowds north of 35-40k.

Yes, the raiders do have problems with members and crowds lol but its hardly the point. If other garbage stadiums can host preliminary finals because its a bit of a travel then there is no reason Canberra Stadium cant.

Hopefully next year we increase both members and crowds. Even when we are travelling good though there is always going to be a dip in the middle of winter for night games. That is just the reality of the situation.
Maybe I'm remembering wrong but it seemed like Canberra got less 2pm Sunday home games this season? It or Sat 3pm need to be the timeslots for the Raiders if they want to build an attendance culture, at least during the middle of the season. Might count you out of Channel 9 viewership but the attendances would surely boost as a result.

If they had a contract to do so it would be exactly like that. As said we have a perfectly adequate made for RL stadium so why would you want to use an AFL one? I doubt Storm are going to sell out pre game.

No dickhead
20 years of little success has stopped our fans being loyal

And again you miss the point
The policy is indicative of the NRLs short sightedness
It doesn't mind our fans buying memberships & supporting our team all season long

Til week 3 of the finals when they suddenly want nothing to do with us
13 clubs get to host a prelim in their home city
3 do not
It's BS.

this be like Mounties v Cutters using ANZ over the swans... classic
Not really. VFL Grand Final gets 13k - 25K and is always the same Sunday at Etihad. They close the top tier and the atmosphere is pretty good.

Last games I saw at Etihad were a final v Parra & Origin about 10 years ago. View and atmosphere was OK, but AAMI is a revelation in comparison - 100 times better for RL. Once you have experienced RL there it is hard to watch anywhere else. I don't know why anyone would be suggest playing RL at an oval.

Although Fridays game wont be a sell out or a record for the Sharks I think it will be the biggest congregation of Cronulla Supporters in the one place, ever.

We are absolutely going to own the SFS.

I am putting this here because I know that Perth Red will see it.

THE MOST POPULAR TEAM!

But the difference is the AFL would ensure their game gets precedence in its home town, even at that level, while the NRL gets trumped in its home town at the highest level due to short sightedness/ineptitude

Mate, it's a game a lot of people are pumped for I reckon. I'm a roosters fan, but me and my mates are going just for the spectacle
