On a more serious note though boony I don't think it's as simple as scoring, it's about contest. You don't want to open it up too much like the NRC, the tries they score are just soft as but then again that's why they play the inferior version of rugby. Like with cricket, I along with many others don't want to see everyone in the side score a ton, you need some form of contest. It's actually what the NRL has over the fumblies, try last night for instance that match was over in 10 minutes when the swans were up 40-6, most afl games are well and truly over going into the final quarter and many are over at half time.

I agree. There is a balancing act but I think it is obvious that it is currently too far in favour of defence and completions and very conservative attacking plans.
The proof of this is that while point scoring was growing up until 2004 so where crowds. It peaked at about 49 points per game in 2003/4 and since then points have declined steadily and so have crowds (when arguably they should have gone up due to all the membership drives).
I wonder where crowds would be now if the point scoring trend continued to grow rather than decline when it did.

Can't disagree with that although in the last few years, I've noticed the top teams become more attacking. Starting with Cows/broncs last year and with penrith, Canberra even cronulla have a lot more flare in them.

Just read that last night's crowd was 36,717.

Given that 30k was the pass-mark and was expecting somewhere in the range of 28-33k, that is an excellent turnout since fixed preliminary finals at Allianz were removed from 2007 onwards. List of Allianz Preliminary finals between Sydney vs non-Sydney team since 2007:

32,611 - Manly vs Nth QLD, Sat night (2007)
27,570 - Cronulla vs Melbourne, Fri Night (2008)
32,095 - Manly vs NZ Warriors, Sat night (2008)
31,894 - Manly vs Brisbane, Fri night (2011)
37,752 - Sydney Roosters vs Newcastle, Sat night (2013)
36,717 - Cronulla vs Nth QLD, Fri night (2016)
