2016 Crowd Watch

Dave spent a fair bit of time trying to convince me that prelim finals in general weren't as popular anymore, regardless of who played. I think tonight disproved that - people turn up on the penultimate weekend regardless of who's there.

Ah yeah
Dave did nothing of the sort
And tonight proved nothing

End of

Timmah the argument has been about Sydney fans turning up for two non Sydney teams which most agree is very unlikely. excellent crowd driven mostly by Cronulla fans hardly the massive turnout of neutrals for the event that you have argued. imagine tonight's game being Canberra v north Queensland, I doubt it would get 15k

Well done sharks

On a Friday night it would be about 15
On a Saturday night it would be about 22

Was at the game as a neutral and the atmosphere was brilliant. In an ideal world, it would've sold out but it exceeded most of our expectations. Good crowd

Good crowd. Well done Sharks fans. I didn't really see any Cowboys fans, so I'd imagine it would've been 40,000 if it was against Canberra.

The Storm should be getting crowds like the Swans for all there success, for being the proclaimed 'sporting capital' they don't get the Storm it's just due crowd wise. The likes of the Lions/Reds get the big crowds when there winning in Brisbane yet the Storm don't get the same treatment.
Storm draw similar crowds to Sydney NRL clubs.
Swans draw similar crowds to Melbourne AFL clubs.
AR playing fields have always been twice the size of RL, the stadiums have always been twice the size and the crowds have always been twice the size. And that might never change no matter what either code does in the future.

so the amount of grass on the pitch determines crowd size... hmmmmm

you might want to tell the broncos and lions your theory , as one averages 36k and one 21k ...

and the 36k one has a smaller m2 grassed area,,, oh shock horror..

lets be honest, afl has always captured a higher % of the hearts and minds of melbournians, than RL has had the same % in sydney,,,

id say 65% of melbourne people take an active interest in AFL, id say about 40% of sydney siders do..

it doesn't mean one game is better, its just a symptom of being a more cosmopolitan city...

The only real advantage AFL has is those 5 clubs in melbourne with a rusted on 60,000 + membership base, they are what drive the whole competition, basically... all the off shoot teams have been basically subsidised by this hard core group of about 300,000 melbournites..

if we had that base in Sydney for NRL, we would be number 1 code by a long way..

35k is pretty f**ked for a semi-final. Only game in Sydney that weekend too. Melbourne crowd will beat it tomorrow.
Well if AAMI park holds a capacity of 30500 how exactly will the Melbourne crowd beat it tomorrow...After all tonites attendance was around 36000.....

I went too - It looked like a sell out at the game TBH - great atmosphere and just a great game to watch. I actually saw a lot of other Easts fans there getting behind the last Sydney team, which was good.

I'm not sure what the NRL needs to do to get these games to sell out really, but 36k+ is pretty close to capacity at Allianz anyway, but maybe being in the East our club needs to better engage with the community because too many people around the East seem to be more Waratahs or even Swans supporters.

That said, I've always thought transport is part of the issue, so it'll be interesting to see if the light rail has any impact on the number of people going to these games, but personally I'd rather there have been a metro line there (would never happen - just not enough business in the area to justify it). When I make my billions one of these days I'm gonna have 60k stadium built on the back of Central station - that'll fix it all ;)

Will we be around in 50 years
Lol
Of course we Will.
We don't need to live off the proceeds of someone else's development , being a lowly tennent in your own backyard living off the scraps.
We finance them ourselves , & become the landlord & charge everyone rent : )

Well you better do something about your crowds ,as history shows despite winning a G/F your average crowds have been ordinaire.

Someone else's development LOL.Thought you hadn't a clue, now convinced .The development is a joint arrangement ,the Sharks with the land, the developers with the money and expertise.$1m a year rental from retail to the club to the Licensed club is living off " scraps" .$40m plus profit on residential development is " scraps." Keep it up, never laughed so much ,since Ricky spat the dummy.

All results of poker machine money, some day people will get the message doing your dough on pokies is dumb.that is why more NRL clubs are reducing their dependency on them .

When we were winning comps our average was around 18500 dopey lol
More,then the Sharks ever have
Or ever will average.

And
It's not Cronullas development either
It is someone else's
They get an annual benefit from the project.

While the Raiders own their project also being built on their land near civic.
It's testimony to the financial state they are in that they can fund a property development by themselves & highlights what a moronic question yours was,

Will they be around in 50 years ?

I know Dave is trolling you but the raiders are investing in alternatives to pokies.

Raiders have substantial real-estate holdings from what I understand and a lot of the clubs in general have really gotten their house in order over the last few years - it's really just the Tigers now that are in shit, and the Wests side aren't doing too bad.

Looks like the storm /raiders game has shifted a few tickets in the last 24 hours. Should be looking at at least 25,000 which will look great. 4 crowds on the trot above 20,000 in Melbourne must go pretty close to a record too.

I reckon crowd will be 27500 tonight. Dont reckon it will crack 30k. Anything above 30 will be a solid effort imo considering the sharks small fan base and the cowboys small away fanbase.

Yea the Shark's small fan base, sure showed they were small last night.

'/m aware of Dave's trolling efforts, like any tennis player he needs a return of serve.
Then they should have an established big loyal fan base with winning comps gimpo,The fact they don't says something.
Live in the past if you wish ,we are talking now,.when there is competition form other codes. If you believe your recent crowds are good, then good luck.

Someone elses development LOL,when it is a partnership. What are you smoking ,moronic is too kind a term.In addition to the annual benefit rent, the club has the $40m plus residential profit sales, the money already handed over by the developer to reduce debt $10m,the brand new junior club house and grounds at the Cronulla High School.A refurbished Licensed club with new restaurants overlooking Woolooware Bay ,more income for the club.
Further plans for a 120 new residential on the site of the retail plus a hotel, further increasing rental income for the hotel and profits on residential sales.
The club would also benefit should an A league franchise be there, the Raiders would not.

Cullen the former CEO of the Broncos when he spent 3 months going through the books, plans and development of Cronulla, stated emphatically he believes the club will among the top 4 financially strong clubs in the game.

They may own their poker machine financed project, they do not own Bruce stadium.Stlll can't crack decent crowds regularly.if they can .I will be the first to do the Viking Clap.

And I'll let you into a secret Dave.I actually enjoy the entertaining style of play like the Raiders are showing. It's your ignorant posts that get me going.
