2016 Crowd Watch

We haven't been able to promote the petition by way of any other means other than Twitter.

The Raiders had their petition regarding a home preliminary final promoted by Canberra Times, 7 PRIME NEWS, WIN local news etc and got 1800 signatures. 1300 is decent given no mainstream media has given us a voice, it has spread through social media sharing alone.

Our crowds are bigger at Moore Park and ANZ because we play at our opponents home grounds and are outnumbered

I was just surprised.

Ive personally always thought the Dragons should play the majority of there games at Wollongong and the Tigers play the majority of the games at Campbeltown. Both well populated regions that give a point of difference form other Sydney clubs. Of course still take some games to, kogarah, leichardt and ANZ but I believe its important for the clubs to have a base of sorts in Wollongong and Campbeltown
I agree with this, I think half of Dragons games need to be played in the Gong, the rest in Sydney. Half the merger is Illawarra for goodness sake. As for the Tigers they need to be smart about who they play, Penrith should always be at Campbelltown for instance.

The Gong has been shafted with low drawing games this year
Thu-Vs Brisbane in hurricane conditions
Sat Vs Pre Origin Storm
Sat vs pre origin Cowboys
Sun Vs Panthers (who are arguably the smallest draw in Sydney) from a Dragons perspective.

Kogorah haven't had a lot better but they got the Sharks at least.
As half the merger Illawarra should be entitled to at least two high drawing games not the offcuts or pre origin matches.

This is the problem! Wollongong and Kogarah shafted!

Kogarah gets
- Raiders Thursday
- Titans Friday
- Sharks Saturday
- Knights Saturday

Titans /Knights were expected wooden spooners.

We got one good game (Sharks). Although origin affected for a couple of games, arguably the gong allocation is better (Broncos/Cowboys/Storm)

But the biggest issue is we play bulldogs at their ground (ANZ), Tigers at one of their grounds (ANZ), Roosters at their home ground (SFS), Souths at SCG

Deliver those fixtures back to Kogarah /Wollongong and crowds would rise again

Should have clarified, Kogarah needs better games as well

While I completely agree that the Dragons have a problem, their venue mix is wrong etc - is the 8% growth actually painting an accurate picture?

I.e. that's 2010 v 2016 % increase.

Does it take into account the heights it reached in between?

Are you reading that correctly Timmah. We've increased 8%, despite a premiership, whilst most other clubs have increased 50-150%, most without success in that period

Chooks got 8760
Wow.
It's all a hindsight exercise
But what if this game was played tomorrow night & the Raiders had played today on an awesome winters day in Canberra. Sunny 15c & not a breath of breeze.
20 to 22,000 without doubt, considerably more then we'll get tomorrow , while today's game may have lost a thousand or so.

Ah well..

Not sure you got what I meant?

The 8% - that is simply comparing 2010 numbers to 2016 numbers, is that right?

What I'm saying is, that such a comparison avoids the fact the club got far more than that (cracked 20k once or twice if I recall?) in the period between.

Estimating stupidly oversized crowds does your argument no favours bud. 16-18k is realistic for Canberra given crowds this season if played Sunday vs Storm. 20-22k is a massive overstatement.

Sorry I see what you mean.

Yes you're partly right, cracked 20,000 once in 2011 (post triumph) and 19k 2012.

Picking 2010 as the starting point was designed to be fairer to the club. If we'd looked at membership growth 2011-2016 or 2012-2016 would have shown negative growth.

The 8% is being kind by allowing a premiership to influence the results. But we are still terrible compared to the rest of the comp

Knights have got to be kidding. Over $13k is bullshit.

Let's assume the ground holds 33k, that means 1 seat in every 2 1/2 would have to be occupied. No way is that the case, unless every seat was taken in the western stand, that can't be seen by the camera?

Not criticising the crowd, the people there deserve medals for turning up...but 13k, come on.

I live here & know the buzz the Raiders are creating is making it's Mark.
You don't live here & have NFI.

I have no idea if the crowd is correct or not but the grandstand you don't see behind the camera is generally the one that fills up first.
