it seems crazy that as an australian citizen semi can get a nsw drivers licence, australian passport, pay taxes, enrol to vote or even run for senate but as soon as he tries to play for australia people say hey he's fijian!!

If the Warriors instead of us had signed him up, he'd be first picked in Kiwis side & noone would bat an eyelid

A guy posted this on Reddit yesterday...

Semi Radradra selected to play for Australia is the most infuriating crap i ever seen.

S**t like this isnt good for the game at all. Playing for Australia or NZ shouldn't be a end goal for players from smaller nations. Its pathetic that any good player that comes up from ranks of smaller nations get picked to play for bigger nations.

Playing for smaller nations isnt a trial to get into bigger nations. As a Fijian its so damn upsetting , stressful and frustrating that we get a deadly winger and he ends up getting called to the Roo's side. Its a shit on our national team. I dont see how this sport will ever be competitive when the best players from smaller nations end up somewhere else.

I love my rugby and this just f**ked up my whole week.

Its a terrible decision as are all these types of decisions. Destroys the international game. Semi was born and raised in Fiji, he should play for Fiji. Same as Tongans should play for Tonga, not us or NZ, Samoa etc same goes.
We have enough quality players not to poach other countries players.
My opinion is no grandparents rule. You play for the county you were born in. Unless you moved to another county at an early age, say before 16yrs old. And then you get the choice to play for either your country of birth or the county you moved to as a child. And once you make the decision, thats it, no swapping and changing.
Simple and fair.

how could you possibly make someone eligible to play origin but not for australia??
p.s. semi is an australian citizen not a foreigner

Because this is footy. It's not about human rights, it's about identity. And just because you're a citizen of a place doesn't mean you're loyal to it. This is especially true of dual citizens.

So Josh McGuire is also making his debut for Australia next week yet has played more tests for Samoa (6 matches ) then Semi has for Fiji ( 4 matches)

Yes I know Semi grew up in Fiji, but Josh grew up in Aust yet played for Samoa - why no mention of Josh in the media ??
