It makes up for them letting coote kick the ball for the first disallowed try - by the rules should have been a penalty try
The rule is you can't kick at the ball if the player has possession of it. The ball was bouncing and Townsend never had it so Coote is allowed to kick at it. The fact that Coote kicked it before Townsend touched it (meaning it was a ine drop out) proves the ball was in no one's possession.
