You're old enough when you're good enough.........

Nah I don't buy into that. I can however think of a number of prodigies that were thrown into FG only to fall away to nothingness. Hutchinson (dragons) and Cornish (raiders) come to mind.

Although, I don't really care who we pick as long as we win :)

I can't even remember Hutchison so can't comment on that.
In terms of Cornish, the big difference to Cleary is that Cornish was thrown into a side with zero halves. They had McCrone and a completely busted Campese to mentor him and take the pressure off. Cleary has two guys that aren't at the top of their game but are effective, experienced guys who have played at the highest level. We have the luxury of dropping him back for more development if he isn't killing it as he's only 19 while Cornish was at least 21.

Also we have Cartwright, Peachey, Moylan etc to do stuff in attack. Just need him to get the feel of it moreso then be a star

I know we definitely aren't up with the Broncos or Cows but if we wanted to try win the comp this year then Cartwright should be 5/8. Building for the future then we look at Cleary

Which is exactly what TMM was doing. Get match fit and slowly working his way into it. With Soward, Wallace and Moylan in the team he doesn't need to come in and call the shots he can simply play what comes without having to force anything.

Agree 100% - except being given the ball to kick the winning field goal against the competition favourites in your debut was probably not part of the plan......

Just a shame that he could not rack up more first grade time this year.

It will be interesting to see the makeup of our three sides for this weekend's fixtures.

Depending on a few carrying niggling injuries the FG side pretty much pick's itself.

As for NSW Cup I wonder whether with the junior rep season now over whether we will see the cream of the NYC side move up to NSW Cup and replaced by the best of SG Ball in NYC side.

There are a few of our boys languishing in the various Ron Massey sides we provide players surplus to requirements. Brent Naden who was tipped to have a bright future and started the season in NSW Cup but lately has been playing for St Marys in RM Cup.

Yeah I don't buy that Sowie was freezing him out. As TMM wanted to get more involved the ball was finding him more. Id prefer it that way with a young half rather than forcing the ball on him and hoping he comes up with something. If Soward wasn't passing him the ball much to help TMM not to hurt him. Soward has some flaws no doubt but he has been a very good team man and very helpful to our young guys since arriving.

Plus like Umina said he wouldn't freeze him out all game and then set him up for the winning FG.

I think in the case of Cleary, we need to get him into first receiver a little bit. He is a pure halfback and will play more of the organizing role than TMM ever will. Same approach though. Let him ease in, when he does go to first receiver, he just has to fire the ball on to Moylan/Soward. If all goes well with Cleary I see us running Soward on the left and Cleary on the right with Moylan playing second receiver both sides.

Which is why like with TMM I have no concerns if we give him a game or 2. You can't plan to be ready for FG need to actually play. I expect when Ball has finished and Luani is back he will go up to NSW Cup for some games

Good point Franklin. First grade isn't in my fire need of a gamble and we want he 20s side to continue momentum and confidence. Could be at home next week against the Tits.

The time to blood Nathan Cleary will be when we have no realistic chance of making the top eight. There is absolutely no need to blood him before hand unless there are injuries to Soward and or Wallace. By all means give him a couple of games in NSW Cup here and there but no need to push him up to NRL. There is plenty of time and we should be aiming for 2017.

Updated list

Sitaleki Akauola, Zak Hardaker, George Jennings, Robert Jennings, Suaia Matagi,
Andy Saunders, Will Smith, Tupou Sopoaga, Peter Wallace.

Rennings is gone to Souths. I haven't seen anything official yet.
Sopoaga has been linked to RU.
Wallace will get a 1 year extension.
Matagi has a option in his favour for 1 year I believe.

There is no compelling cases for any of them, though in Hardaker's case, it's because he hasn't touched a ball yet. Unfortunately, we have painted ourselves into a corner and will be stuck with Wallace as a starter for another year.

Has he? Or did they take Burns instead? Surely they didn't get both.
