I am not sure what we were actually trying to do in that game. Just hit ups. No offloads and no passing.

I seriously want to say WTF.

BA told us before the game that we were gonna go up the middle. At least they listen to the coach.
Why would he..
A, tell everyone his game plan...and B, use that stupid game plan in a 9s format where there is so much room on the edges.

BA scares me to be honest. I dont think he is a very smart tactical coach. He has the respect of the players and a great motivator, but i think his game plan are shit.

Nope ... the tournament stars are always those who run rings around others

Player of the tournament last year was a playmaker....I don't expect Gutherson to be Norman, but he needed to offer something as the chief playmaker. We didn't need him to be a star, just to be a playmaker and make use of Semi and French against a short defensive line with plenty of holes and he showed nothing unfortunately.

Hopefully he learns from it.

Well FOG was out there as the play maker and offered nothing and king overplayed his hand all game. Guth looked a little tired by the end.

Yeah but one is our starting 6, the others are Wentworthville players at this stage. King is still better than Kaysa IMO.

Anyway I see the 9s as an extended trial in a lot of ways and I think if Gutho had played like that as lead playmaker in a trial there'd be a lot more concerned fans. He's a quality player, but does that make him a quality 6?

I know what you are saying ... and yeah, it would be nice if he carved up ... but imo 9s is vastly different and he's more suited to 6 in 13 a side than 9s .... cos 9s is about speed and stepping (norman is a very good stepper)

Fair call, just seemed to be Guth spent a fair bit of time on the wing and didn't play as the main playmaker, thats what it looked to me. FOG offered nothing and King just hogged it up with Gower.

I don't think you can afford to have 3 playmakers in 9's format and with King and Fog doing that Gunco played more a centre role mostly

It is a good point. Semi didn't seem too interested.

We are giving Gutho a bit of crap but surely Semi deserves some.

I'm not meaning to come across as giving him crap, because at the end of the day it's a preseason tournament and we did very well and look in good shape. I'm just concerned that maybe he's not suited to a playmaking role.

IMO he's a natural fullback and could be very good there. He has some of the skills to make a solid 6, but does he have the actual game for it?

Not worried about King and Fog, they are back ups at this stage. I'm concerned by Gutherson if I'm honest....don't get me wrong, I love the bloke, but showed very little as a playmaker in a game made for playmakers...it's only 9s but there's a worry there anyway

Is King only a backup? By all reports he will be our starting hooker this year, and I'm very worried about that. He is very ordinary.

He's still better than Kaysa and offers far more in attack than IDG (then again, so does a brick).

IDG will start the season with Kaysa on the bench from the reports I've heard...
